september 7, 2012 Happy Good Friday, everyone! But wait a minute, JLH. Its not Holy Week? Au contraire, mon frere. It is the most holy of weeks: New York Fashion Week. And yours truly has snagged a photog pass to the event. I feel like a kid at Christmas. (Not to mix my religious metaphors.) This is my second ever Fashion Week and I have been going non-stop since last wednesday, save for a job interview this passed Saturday, but shh...I'll talk about that later. I've seen so many great things so far, with more to come by Michael Kors, Tadashi Shoji and Lela Rose! Can you tell I'm excited? The show runs for another six day and I don't know if I'll be able to make it! BUt I want to make mention because there are lots of exciting things coming out of these design houses this years. Mint green is in season (hooray) as well as floral patterns, making a come back. I know it sounds silly, but I'm reminded of a great movie quote: "'This... stuff'? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select... I don't know... that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent... wasn't it who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff."Although, to be fair, I think I'm the only one that thought that Anne Hathoway was the antagonist of the movie and that she needed to leave poor, sweet, Meryl Streep alone. Katie Holmes debuted at Fashion Week with her collection, Holmes & Yang, with her stylist Jeanne Y ang. And I can honestly say I'm a fan. Good for her. She looked amazing, by the way. I need that dress.. But her collection nailed it, in my humble a opinion. Fashionble clothes for a gal on the go--what's not to love? And since I couldn't deprive my loyal readers of JLH news, I'm working on some colabs with some friends from school. We got together to discuss the project the other day and its going to be good. I don't want to divulge too many details but lets just say its high fantasy and high fashion. Be sure to look out for that! I'll be live-tweeting the rest of the week so make sure to follow me @jenniesnaps on Twitter! À bientôt, everybody! -jennie-lynn |
