twenty-seven.
Two dead sons. He had told her - promised her - that she wouldn't lose Agravaine. That he would do more than his best to save himself.
It wasn't entirely rational to blame him considering the circumstances but Morgause felt far from rational as she grieved for her eldest two. She had stolen away somewhere where that bastard Merlin couldn't be found, couldn't trip across her as she mourned her losses. God wouldn't be able to help him if he uttered the wrong word. She would gladly pay every price there was to bring him down for any slight or slur against her sons.
But, for now, she allowed her face to grow damp from weeping, refusing the idea of comfort. She would not have it, not until she saw her children again. That included Mordred who lived and would have to be seen soon.
Only after she composed herself. God forbid even her youngest see her a wreck. No one, not even her mother or beloved sister, could see her this way.
