A suit was not a particularly conventional dresscode for a forest, yet that was how Athena had found herself, wrapped up in the clothes she'd been working in the night before. Her hair, wrapped up in a ponytail, felt strangely itchy in the current weather.
Not too long after waking, she'd set off with her knife and compass, leaving the laptop behind as she was not too intent on carrying the thing -- her phone would do just fine. First, to see where exactly she was. The compass was virtually useless, she learned, telling her only which direction she was going, not her location. With a resigned sigh, she pocketed the thing, stopping at a tree that grew what looked suspiciously like papayas.
Sigyn was okay, she really was just fine. It didn't matter that she had woken up with leaves in her hair wearing the dress she had been at the club with (who clubs on sunday nights anyway?... oh yeah). It had taken the better part of the hour to realize she had been walking in a circle (seriously, that papaya tree was ugly) before she sighed. Wherever she was trying to go, she couldn't get to it.
Rubbing her temples to ward off a headache, Sigyn froze when she heard footsteps in her direction. She flattened herself against the tree trunk and clutched a papaya for dear life (as a weapon).
In the quiet of the forest, Athena could hear shuffling, but not quite where it was coming from. Taking the knife into her hand, she slowly stepped off the main path, edging toward the tree. Had it been coming from the tree? Perhaps there was something up above, like an animal, a bird.
But the goddess of war found nothing to her liking, and so, on the direct opposite side of Sigyn, she began to carve an X into the trunk.
Sigyn swallowed, she was going to die - someone was going to eat her. They were going to make lunch out of her and she would be fleshy, tender and- maybe she was still drunk from last night as well. She couldn't be sure, so instead she waited. The carving sound behind her made her swallow and then spring into action. It was quick and not so graceful how Sigyn jumped out.
...And then the goddess of wisdom and war would find that a papaya had been thrown in her general vicinity.
Athena almost, almost took a papaya to the face, but her reflexes prevented this. One quick hand shot out, catching the fruit rather than deflecting it. In the face of danger, she'd tensed up, her fingers tightening around the hilt of her knife, until she realized it: she recognized that face.
"Katherine?" Her father's mortal child.
"It's Aubrey." Sigyn replied flatly, she knew this blond woman from before- and she most emphatically knew she was not part of her father's weird harem thing. Hopefully. "What are you doing here?" It came out more defensive than intended, especially since she had just thrown a papaya at Athena's head.
In her defence, she could've been one of those scary people hunting them down. Or something.
Both the papaya and knife were lowered, the former tossed at the ground. It rolled all the way to Sigyn's feet. "I'm looking for the same answer," the blonde returned, sheathing her weapon in the back of her pants. "Are you here alone?"
Because, near assault via fruit or not, this was her father's daughter. She would have to protect her as best she could.
"Yeah." Sigyn replied and kicked at the ground, it was almost a sulky gesture, but really, for someone who had no idea why they were in this mess? It was hard not to get annoyed at why she kept getting dragged into places with these crazy people who thought they were gods. It was seriously soul-crushing to be lumped in with the crazies.
"Least we won't starve." And that was the only plus side Sigyn could think of right now.
Athena's only sign of amusement was a slightly raised eyebrow. No, they wouldn't starve, but a diet consisting of only fruit wouldn't sustain them. Unless she had been joking, in which case, the goddess hadn't caught it.
"Then let's find somewhere to set up a camp. Staying here all day throwing fruit at people will do no one any good," she pointed out without a hint of sarcasm. Rather than waiting for a response, she was turning on her heel back up to the path.
Sigyn shrugged a little and turned to follow Athena, walking a little bit faster so she could catch up with the goddess (who moved rather faster than she'd expected). Oh well, at least she seemed to want to help her, Sigyn was not proud to reject help in any shape or form.
Especially in these situations.
