Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Leanne and Marcus
When: Tuesday Morning
Where: Tea Room
What: She wants to thank him for his help

Leanne was peckish. It was Tuesday morning, and she got to work early enough that she had time to run to the Tea Room for a snack before work. It'd provide the perfect opportunity for her to thank Marcus for taking such good care of her the other night while she was drunk. She didn't want to do it over the journals, that just felt so impersonal.

After dropping off her cloak and bag in her cubicle, she headed to the lift. A short walk later and she was in the Tea Room. Without a waitress in sight, she wandered over to the door to the kitchen, and poked her head in.

"Hello?"

"Hey." Leanne stepped into the kitchen, but made sure not to touch anything. She didn't want to get in the way, either, so she kept close to the door.

"It's Leanne." She added, shyly, watching him with the pasta.

"Oh hey Leanne!" Pleasant surprise in the morning. He usually only saw Lisa this early. He set the pasta aside and appeared out of the steam, wiping his hands on his mapron.

"Can I get you anything?"

Leanne gave a smile when she saw him come through the steam. It was a funny picture. If only it was in slow motion, it would have reminded her of one of those muggle films.

"I'd love a pastry. And a coffee?"

He grinned. "Of course. I'll be outside in a bit if you want to wait out there. I hear humidity isn't good for a girl's hair."

"All right." She grinned in response, then let herself out of the kitchen to sit at one of the tables near the door. Her hair was still perfect after leaving the kitchen.

He started on the coffee before poking his head outside the kitchen. "I forgot to ask. What kind of pastry do you want? There's a bunch of stuff baking right now, so if you name it, I'll probably have it."

"Something with cinnamon? A roll or something?" Leanne wasn't picky. "And can I have cream and sugar in my coffee?" She added. The coffee from the other night was wonderful for sobering her up, but this morning she needed something a little kinder on her stomach.

"Coming right up," he added with a pleasant smile. It was only a matter of seconds before Marcus returned with a cinnamon roll and two steaming mugs of sweetened coffee. Hair net off but mapron still on, he set the items on the table and took a seat in front of Leanne.

"So what's the occasion?" He took a sip from his coffee. Marcus could afford a little break. Not like the pasta was going to go anywhere.

"I wanted to thank you for taking care of me the other night." Leanne said, blushing a little as she lifted the mug for a sip. It was fantastic.

"And for listening to me babbling. This is really good, by the way."

"Oh," he replied dumbfounded. This was...nice. He never had anyone come in to specifically thank him for doing what he had to do. "I only did what any good friend ought to do." Marcus couldn't help the huge grin that was all over his face. He scratched the back of his head.

"Thank you for not vomiting all over me." He tried to turn the tables on her. It would make him feel much less flustered.

Leanne gave an embarrassed laugh, and shook her head. "I don't think I've ever vomited on anyone... why would I start with you?" She gave him a little grin.

"I just wanted you to know that I appreciate it." She tore a piece off the cinnamon roll and ate it. "Man, this is amazing. How are you so good at cooking?"

Cute grin. Marcus prayed that he wasn't blushing.

"Thanks. It's pretty simple. Just load it up with sugar and people will eat it. Or fry it," He leaned in his chair, resting his elbows on its back. "Kidding. I picked up a lot of stuff while I was traveling. The cinnamon I use is three parts commercial and one part from my personal collection that I picked from Sri Lanka."

Leanne gave another laugh, much happier this time. "Well, you know... deep fried sugar. Yum." There was that grin again.

Her eyes went a little wide. "You've been to Sri Lanka? And you brought back cinnamon??"

"Yeah," he said nonchalantly as he could. "I bet it into my cinnamon rolls batch once a week and you happened to come in on the right day." He loved telling stories about his travels.

"I've been to a lot of places."

"Well, you do good." Leanne said. She took another bite. Poor Leanne couldn't really cook. She could do okay, but nothing like this.

"Where else have you been?"

"The usual haunts around Europe: France, Denmark, Germany, Italy. And then I did a tour down through Bulgaria and Turkey. Spent three weeks getting through Iran and Pakistan, and eventually found myself in India for a month." He took another sip of the coffee.

"In all, I was out of the UK for about over a year."

"Wow." Leanne was incredibly impressed. She'd never gone so far as France. Not that she didn't want to, she just never had. The opportunity never came up. She even had a 'Leanne's world travel' fund (piggy bank) but hadn't had a chance to use it.

"That's incredible. How was it? Did you go by yourself? Did you take lots of pictures?"

"It was pretty amazing. I picked up a lot of stuff on the way. The majority of my culinary knowledge came from having to gather what I could on weeks when galleons were scarce. And pictures? I keep the memories in my head. A camera would have been too bulky," And expensive. He gave her a silly grin.

"I traveled alone this time, but next time I go, I want to bring someone with me. It can get pretty lonely. I've been trying to convince Li-" Marcus caught himself. He cleared his throat. He didn't want to reveal her name. Didn't think it was too appropriate. "--a friend."

"Oh, man, I would have loved to see pictures! I can just imagine you bumming your way around Europe. And parts of Asia." She grinned at the image in her head. It was far too cute.

Lee? Who was Lee? Leanne's eyebrow raised in curiosity. "I hope your friend will go with you. I can't imagine saying no to such an amazing experience."

"Really? You would?" Now he wish he did take pictures. Another reason why he didn't take any was he wouldn't have anyone to show. But now he did. He'd keep that in mind next time he went on a traveling adventure.

"Well, she's...she's kinda boring," How else to describe Lisa Turpin? She never wanted to go out with him. "All she likes to do is take care of this one guy who thanks her anyway," Marcus said that last part full of venom.

"Of course I would! It sounds smashing." She gave him a bright grin, continuing to eat and drink while they talked.

"Why would you want to travel with someone who's boring?" She wasn't sure what to think of his venom.

"Well, I just think she needs to go see some of the world a bit. She's not BORING boring, per se. But she just doesn't like to go out and take risks like I do. I want to show her what's out there. That the world is more than just this little Tea Room." Oops. Was that too big of a hint? His eyes went wide in anticipation of Leanne's response.

Leanne paused, then looked around the Tea Room, then back to Marcus with wide eyes.

"It's not that snotty teenage girl who works here, is it??" She asked in a whisper. (ooc: See here for more.)

"What?" he said impatiently. Lisa was NOT a snotty teenage gi--Oh. Right. Her.

"MERLIN'S BEARD, NO!" He replied with exasperation. "Oh Godric, no. No, no, no! Not her. She's...she's unpleasant."

"Very much so." Leanne nodded. "And a bit young for you, too." She was glad it wasn't that girl. That only left...

Leanne's eyes went a little wide with recognition. Lee...sah. Lisa. She gave a little gasp. "You fancy Lisa?"

"What? I--Of course not. No. You--You're ridiculous. That's just. Just completely silly..." Marcus stumbled over his words. He was getting absolutely flustered, breathing loudly and scoffing after every other word. He tried to put on his strongest denial face but only succeeded in turning red.

"Shite," he said under his breath, dropping his head onto the table so he wouldn't have to face her. "Yes," he said just barely above a whisper.

Leanne may have been a bit anive, but she could tell what that flustration meant. (Yes, flustration. It's a word now.) She broke into a bit of a grin, and nodded. "I see. So when we were talking at the bar, and I was talking about Katie... you really knew what I was going through."

He raised his head and gave her a withering look. "Oi. Shut up. Of course I knew." Marcus craned his head around the room to make sure that nobody was around before leaning in close to Leanne and whispering.

"You have to promise that you won't tell anyone though. Not a soul. I think I may have told her before."
