Lavender peered into the bassinet, smiling at Katherine who was staring back at her. "Hi, sweetheart, are you going to watch Mommy decorate the tree with Daddy?" she asked softly, leaning closer so Katie could see her. The baby's eyes went wide and she gurgled, shifting in her blankets. "We have special ornaments just for you and if you're a good girl and let Mommy sleep, Santa will come tonight," she teased, caressing her soft cheek.

The front door of the flat opened and Kevin came in. "Hi, hon. Did you get dinner?" she asked, walking across the living room. Roxy stayed behind, peering at the bassinet containing the bundle that still perplexed the poor dog.

"I think Roxy's young enough to handle a puppy. Aren't you girl?"

Roxy raised an ear and cocked her head. Kevin laughed.

"The puppy and Kate can grow up together, right baby girl?" Lavender cooed as she stood and reached into the bassinet to pick up the pink bundle. "So... after the holidays, I can start looking at lots then?" she smiled over at Kevin as she rocked the baby.

"And we can talk about what we want in a house. What rooms, what layout. Do some sketches." Kevin was pretty sure his flat proved that he could be trusted to help decorate.

"The money I got from my share of the estate is more than enough to pay for the land. We would be able to own it out right," she told him, arranging Kate's blankets so she could show the baby the tree. "And then maybe next Christmas, we could be decorating a tree in our own house. And probably watching you try to eat wrapping paper," she grinned at kate.
