Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Lisa and Roger
What: Lisa is upset
Where: Roger's flat
When: After her fight with Marcus
Rated: who knows

Lisa appeared on Roger's doorstep with a pop. She wiped at her nose quickly and knocked. She had a key, but she was too frazzled and upset to use it. Besides, she didn't bring it with her. She didn't bring anything, save a coat and some tissues. She didn't want to get Roger all wet or use up all of his Kleenex.

The fight with Marcus couldn't have gone much worse. He'd packed a bag and left her flat after making rude comments about her relationship with Roger, her intentions and her weight. Her words hadn't been any nicer. She already regretted most of what she said. Still, she did have a point about something. Their friendship couldn't have been that great if it was that easy to ruin. That was the part that hurt the most.

And so, she was crying. Bawling her eyes out, actually, and needed her boyfriend to console her. She hadn't even completely read the return owl or she might not have come over. The last thing she needed was for Brighton to see her upset. It just didn't do to appear vulnerable around someone you wanted to be an authority for. She wiped her nose again and tried her best to smile as the door opened.

Roger opened the door, a bit of popcorn in his hair. The flat was covered in it, as Brighton turned out to be really bad at stringing popcorn without pricking his finger and dropping it. Or breaking it.

Roger held his finger to his lips and nodded her into the flat. She looked like crap, but he knew exactly what would cheer her up. There was a roaring fire going and a Christmas record playing. Brighton was passed out on the couch, bits of candy cane stuck to his sticky face, popcorn in his lap and all around him. The tree was strung with popcorn and an enchanted star glowed on top. He had worked hard and now he was out cold.

Lisa moved into the warm flat. Roger had been right about one thing. Everything was covered in popcorn. She tried her best not to step on any, but every so often heard a crack under her shoes. She made a mental note to clean it up later. Now, she just wanted Roger to hold her.

She moved towards the living room where most of the mess seemed to be. But in the middle of it all was a beautiful tree. Brighton had done a great job and it almost made her tears fall more steadily. She would have to decorate her own tree alone this year. Marcus wouldn't be helping, she was sure of it.

Lisa shrugged off her coat and looked around around for a place to sit.

Roger dusted some popcorn off an arm chair and sat down. He pulled Lisa over by her hand, offering her the only available seat in the room, his lap.

"Hey," he whispered, "Want me to let him beat me up for hurting you?"

Lisa let herself be pulled down. She hated feeling like this. Hardly anyone ever made her feel this bad about herself and her decisions. "I kind of want you to just beat him up," she muttered, wiping her eyes with a tissue. "He said really rude things."

"Like what?" he asked. Roger pressed a kiss to the top of her head. He thought about a fight with Marcus. He could probably take him. Except he had a feeling Marcus was a biter. After all, he threw toast.

Lisa sniffled. "He called me a whore and said I was starving myself to try and impress you." Among other things; mostly insults about Roger. She frowned. "He hates me, I think."

His jaw clenched. Roger was pretty sure he had it in him to take care of Marcus right now. "Well, he's obvious a moron. I eat enough meals with you to know you're not starving yourself and you're certainly not a whore."

Lisa smiled, despite how she still felt. Roger was right, after all. Marcus was just spouting nonsense. "I just don't know why he's being like this." Why was it such a big deal that she was seeing Roger?

"Maybe he fancies you?" Well there was a novel idea. "Maybe he's jealous."

Lisa furrowed her brow. "I don't know. I guess it's plausible. But he's always calling me a fat arse and... just not stuff that you'd think a person would do if they fancied someone. Right?" She looked at Roger.

"Well, I did say he was a moron." Roger tucked her hair behind her ear and kissed her nose. "Or maybe I'm wrong and he's just mad that eventually you'll stop washing his underwear for him."

Lisa giggled. Her tears had stopped, but her face was red and her eyes were puffy. "That's probably it. He's moved over to Tim's for the time being. Never realized how empty my flat was." She sighed. "It's funny you mention that though, because he was all up in arms that I 'do your laundry' when it was just one shirt."

"You're washing one of my shirts? Which shirt am I missing?" How did he leave without his shirt? He must have been really rushed not to notice he was only in an undershirt.

"It's blue. It might have been the one I wore home, but I'm not sure. It's in the laundry now. You'll have it back tomorrow." Lisa shrugged. It wasn't like she stole it.

"I like how you look in my shirts." He took her hand and laced their fingers. "I think I might have one of your bras in my laundry. Probably same morning you wore my shirt him."

Brighton had asked him what it was. That was a bit awkward.

"It's possible," she said, looking down at their hands. She smiled. Roger had already cheered her up tenfold. She was still upset, but not nearly as much. "His dad died."

"Well, that gives him an excuse to be grumpy, but not to make you feel bad about yourself." Nothing gave him that right.

"He didn't even tell me. He just went to the funeral. I don't understand why he wouldn't tell me. I mean, we didn't tell him about us because he'd throw toast at you. I wouldn't throw toast cause his father passes away." It didn't make sense.

"Well, you can ask him again when he calms down." After he had a black eye, because Roger was going to hit him. "Maybe he'll be more reasonable."

Lisa sighed. "I guess so." She looked at Roger and smiled. "Thank you," she said, giving his hand a bit of a squeeze.

"I have some wine in the icebox, if you want a glass," he offered. "You can pour some while I carry Brighton to bed?"

"I thought you didn't keep alcohol in the flat anymore?" Lisa asked, standing from his lap to let him up.

"Not hard liquor. I keep wine for company." And lately he had no desire to get piss drunk and sleep with a stranger, so he wasn't too worried about it.

Roger approached the couch. He crouched down, slid his arms under Brighton, and slowly lifted him. God, the kid was getting too big for this.

Lisa watched Roger for a moment before slipping into the kitchen. She grabbed the wine and two glasses. She filled the glasses and carried them back into the living room where she settled down on the sofa and waited for Roger to come back. The fire was crackling and peaceful. She closed her eyes.

Roger came back from Brighton's room and stopped in the hall closet for a dustpan. He charmed it to start cleaning up popcorn. He didn't need rodents, thankyouverymuch.

"Don't you fall asleep on me."
