Lavender walked out of the powder room, having to use the loo for the upteenth time that morning. She paused, feeling the baby kick at her bladder... again. "Uhh, no..." she groaned, shaking her head as she rubbed her expansive belly. "We're done using the toilet for the morning. There's nothing left!" she whined, waddling back to the sofa. Halfway there, she heard a knock at the door and she smiled, knowing Hermione had arrived for lunch. "I'm coming... hang on," she called, walking to the door. Opening the door, she smiled brightly. "Oh, I'm so glad you could come over!" she smiled.

"Then I feel bad for her," she laughed softly, then winced, her eyes closing when she felt like the baby was clenching at something inside of her. Or maybe... maybe something inside of her was clenching or tightening.

"I... Hermione..." Lavender didn't know what this was, but she knew she was very uncomfortable what with the baby pressing down in an awkward position and her stomach clenching and unclenching.

	"Shh," Hermione said, raising her hand to run over Lavender's shoulder in a protective and calming way. "Labor takes a long time. You may even have days before she gets here. There's plenty of time to get Kevin and finish the nursery." Hermione looked worried, though. "Maybe we should take you to St. Mungos, just to check and make sure everything's okay." Lavender felt like she was going to cry - what if she was in labor? Was she really ready for this? "I'm... OK, OK... just... I need Kevin," she insisted, slowly rising to her feet.

She made a floo connection to St. Mungo's and they insisted that she come in, much to Lavender's dismay. She turned to Hermione. "Will you stay with me?" she asked softly, "at least until Kevin comes?"

	Lavender smiled softly, nervous and scared all at the same time. She couldn't apparate and the St. Mungo's team was waiting on the other side of the floo connection when Lavender stepped through. They whisked her away while she protested that they wait for Hermione. "No, no, no... where is my friend. My husband is not here yet and I need her to stay with me!" 	She sighed a little then let out a groan. "How long has this been going on?" the nurse asked. "I don't know, I just feel so uncomfortable and I have to go to the bathroom all the time and then I started to feel like the baby was squeezing my organs," she said, laying back when she was settled into a hospital bed. 	They moved quickly and effeciently, looking Lavender over, checking on the baby. Between questions and while they started an exam, Lavender turned to Hermione. 	Hermione shook her head. "I... I didn't want to leave you." She said. The healers had set up some fetal monitoring. It was no big deal, though, they set up a belt around Lavender's tummy with sensors on it. It was uninvasive, and Lavender was told to lay back and relax. Hermione took Lavender's hand. 	"I don't think I'll be able to relax like they're ordering me to... I need him," she said softly. Hemione was such a good friend, but she needed Kevin to talk her off a ledge. 	Hermione nodded. "Have a sip of water and lay back." She said, then let go of Lavender's hand to step out into the hall. She could send a patronus to wherever Kevin was. 	Lavender lay in the bed, watching the nurses flutter around her, making quite the fuss. "It's not time... don't be impatient before you're even born," she gently chided at the baby in her belly. There was a little crack in the hallway when Kevin apparated there. The noise didn't really carry but it scared the nurse he appeared next to. Kevin ran down the hall, disregarding warnings about running in the hospital.

"Where's Lavender Entwhistle?" he asked a passing orderly. They pointed to her door and Kevin was pushing his way through, panicked, a moment later.

	Lavender reached out and pulled him in for a hug. "Thank you... thank you," she breathed against his neck. The nurses returned with the news that Lavender was not, in fact, in labor. "You've got time," they assured her and let them know that Lavender could leave whenever she was comfortable and ready. She turned to Kevin, smiling softly. "No baby today..."
