Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who? Emma and Tim
When? Sunday morning
Where? her family's estate (eventually)
What? Emma is having a crisis of conscience
Rating? TBD

It was Sunday morning and after waking up extraordinarily early, Emma had left Tim in her bed and wandered down the hall to her small kitchen. After sitting at the table in the dark, the sun had come up and she'd brewed a pot of coffee. Pacing the living room, she waited a little while longer then decided she needed to talk to him and wandered back into her bedroom with a hot cup of coffee for Tim. She set it on the nightstand and crawled in beside him, nuzzling his cheek as she tried to wake him. "Rise and shine, handsome," she whispered.

Tim smiled at the kiss to his nose, and sat up a little at the smell of the coffee. He gave a little nod. "Sure. What's going on?" His tail reached over the side of the bed to start gathering his clothes.

"I've been awake for awhile and I've decided that I want to share something with you," she sighed softly, leaning her forehead against his. Emma couldn't believe she was going to risk losing something so wonderful with him just to clear her own conscience.

Tim lifted one hand to touch her cheek. He closed his eyes for a moment, then nodded. "Just let me get dressed." He was a little nervou at what'd made her so nervous.

Emma slid out of bed and wandered over to her closet, pulling on a pair of grey tweed pants and a big, warm white sweater. She walked back into her bedroom, picking her brush up from her vanity. She brushed her wavy locks then sat on the edge of her bed and pulled on a pair of boots and glanced at Tim, smiling softly.

She walked to his side and pulled him close to kiss him. "I'm sorry to wake you up like this but... this will be good," she smiled softly.

Tim only had his clothes from yesterday. He knew he was going to stay the night, but hadn't brought anything else. He climbed off the bed and dressed, then sat back down to pull on his shoes. When she kissed him, he kissed her back with vigor.

"All right."

Emma took his hand and walked with him down the hall. "As long as you're comfortable with it, we're going to do side-by-side apparation. It's not far - no oceans or anything," she smirked as she reached into her closet for a warm jacket. "We have to walk a little, so if you want to transfigure one of my jackets into something that will fit you, feel free," she smiled.

"Sure, of course." He didn't mind at all. He probably should have. He probably should have been more cautious, more careful. He probably should have been a little more paranoid about being so close with her so quickly, but he was in love and couldn't help himself.

"Where are we going?" He asked, drawing out his wand to lengthen one of the coats in the closet. Then he pulled it on.

She walked with him outside of her building and around the corner to a small alley. "I'm sorry, I would rather you see it first..." she said softly as she looped her arm through his and apparated them.

Once they landed, Emma felt her head spin for a moment then the world cleared. They were standing on a dirt road, out in what appeared to be the middle of nowhere. She took his hand and walked along the path and once they reached a clearing, the shape of a rather large house could be seen in the near distance.

Tim was a little nervous now. What was it she had to show him that was so important? He took her hand in his as they apparated.

He always felt a little disoriented after apparating. Once their feet were on solid ground again, he looked around. His fingers laced with hers as she followed her along the path.

"Someone's house?" He asked, his guard up at his new surroundings.

The manor was clearly unlived in, and had been for quite some time. The ivy was looping its way up the stone. Emma peered up at Tim and nodded a little. "It's mine..." she told him.

"This is Dobbs Manor and it's been standing for nearly two hundres years, she started. "It was left to me in my father's will but it's caused somewhat of a controversy in my father's family as a woman has never owned the property in the five hundred years that the Dobbs' have owned the property. This is the third manor - the two previous burned to the ground during wars," she said, peering at the manor. "My father's siblings believe it should be taken back and given to my oldest uncle's oldest son; my father was the oldest son and I'm his only child, a girl."

His eyes widened a little at her story. "Wow." He said, softly.

"Is that why you don't live here?"

Emma walked with him up the path toward the house. "No, the family had no ground to stand on to take the house from me. The Wizengamot ruled in my favor before they could even protest," she shrugged. "I don't live here because I need to stay close to my mother. She... she's a patient at St. Mungo's," Emma finally told him, "she was on the Janus Thickney Ward until it caved in. Now she's in the ICU..."

Tim paused, still following her toward the house, but not talking. No wonder they hadn't talked much about their families. He didn't have one, and hers had crumpled.

"I'm sorry." He said, softly, giving her hand a squeeze.

He didn't know the half of it. Emma was so scared to continue - what if he rejected her because of her family? It was what she had been used to all her life - families searching for equal or better families to marry into.

Emma swallowed hard, glacing over at him before she waved her wand and let down the wards, letting him into the house. It was just as grand on the inside as the outside.

Tim followed her into the house, looking up and around. He held tightly to her hand, not going anywhere she didn't lead him. She felt the need to show him this, and he still didn't understand why.

Standing in the center of the grand foyer, at the base of the staircases that led upstairs, away from one another in grand sweeping gestures, the ceilings reaching three-stories high, she turned to him.

"This is my past and this is who my family is... this is where I come from and it's in my blood," she told him. "The Dobbs line can be traced back over five hundred years and... my family is... high society and..." she swept her arms out, "this is all mine and..." Emma was having a panic moment.

Emma swallowed hard, turning her face away from his as he held her; she couldn't look at him. "No... my family they're... pureblood elitists and..." Her face crumbled and she looked down at the floor.

She stared at her shoes and his shoes as she talked. "I was raised to think that way... that I was above other people... and I wasn't always the nicest person when I was growing up. I went to fancy balls and danced with young men of equal or higher status... I did whatever it took to please my father. And he... he wouldn't have approved of us and I don't want you to think less of me because of my family," she said softly, feeling the tears stinging hard in her eyes.

Tim frowned, lifting a hand to turn her face back toward him.

"I don't think less of you." He said after a long moment. He ran his thumb gently across her cheek. "Emma, if that's all true, then I think more of you. You were able to overcome it." He said, softly.

"You... you do think I'm good enough for you, don't you?" He asked, a moment of concern flashing across his features.

Emma lifted her eyes to his, a few tears trailing down her cheeks. "Losing my father led to my mother being the way she is and it has probably been the hardest thing I've ever been though," she told him. "But.. if my father hadn't died..." The thought trailed off because the truth was, if her father was alive, she would have never looked twice at Tim because she would still be the other Emma.

"I care about you more then I've ever cared about anyone else," she said softly. "I'm actually really glad I dropped that cupcake in your lap," Emma smiled. "But, part of me needs you to know who I am... who my family is..."

Tim brought his other hand around to wipe the tears from her cheeks. When she mentioned the cupcake, he smiled. His hands dropped from her face to wrap down and around her, hugging her tightly to him.

"All right. Thank you for telling me. But, honestly, Emma, your family only made you. You do the rest."

Emma wound her arms around him, hugging him back. She closed her eyes as she rested her head on his chest, just existing with him for a moment. Emma felt so at ease with him - he really was a good guy if he could look past her family's prejudice and see her. Oh... was this was love felt like? she wondered, hugging him tighter.

Tim didn't really know much about her family's prejudice. He knew about other people in the world, and how they felt about him and his family... his parents' deaths were proof of that. But he only knew Emma for what she was--beautiful, smart, loving, funny, wonderful. And he was head over heels.

He ran his hands up and down her back a little, as if warming her, and planted a kiss against her hair. "It's a beautiful home. Did you grow up here?"

Emma lifted her head, moving away just enough to look around, remaining in the circle of his arms. "Yes, me and my parents... and my governess," she told him. "It neds a really good cleaning but it's held up even though no one has lived here in about five years. I can give you a tour, if you'd like," she offered, not sure if he wanted to stay or go."

"I'd like that." Tim said. He let his hands fall down from around her, and slipped one of them inside hers. "I'd like to see where you grew up. Tell me the whole story."
