Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who? Emma and OTA
When? Saturday early afternoon
Where? St. Mungo's - hallway toward cafeteria
What? Emma is working, but in a good mood
Rating? PGish

How did that song go? "I'm walking on sunshine?" That was how Emma felt - almost all the time, it seemed. She'd been asked to take an extra shift and even that didn't bother her. A week after the revealing conversation with Tim, and the late night activities that had followed, they'd spent a couple more nights together including the previous night at his house until she'd left his warm bed in the pre-dawn light to get to work on time. She was definitely getting used to the idea of spending nights with Tim - even when they spent a lot of time talking and getting to know one another better.

On Saturday, Emma had decided to have lunch then visit her mother in intensive care. It wasn't looking good - her memory was nearly gone. She was shutting the world out and not even letting Emma in these days. It was the one subject she and Tim had yet to discuss - she just wasn't ready. So, she dropped off her files from the morning at the desk and wandered down to the cafeteria to get something to eat with a lot on her mind.

"Yeah." Marcus perked up again. Oh Tim. As much of a bint he was, Marcus was glad to have him as a friend. "I know Tim. How are you unfortunate enough to know him?"

How could it possibly be unfortunate to know Tim? Emma wondered dreamily. "Oh, umm... a few weeks back I had a little klutzy moment in the cafeteria and... dropped a cupcake on him," she grinned. "We sort of.. hit it off... been hanging out," she shrugged. She guessed that Marcus didn't know about her - he had enough on his plate.

"Oh, yeah?" Marcus grinned. Tim hadn't told him a thing about her. He was happy for his mate. At least one of them had a flourishing love life. What a catch. Good job, Tim. Marcus made a mental note to buy him a pint later. "So you two are dating or something, now?"

"Oh... ummm," Emma shrugged, smiling a little. "Just... getting to know each other and... stuff," she laughed. "I mean, he's a great guy and... I really enjoy spending time with him and... he's teaching me how to dance and I drop things on him so, I guess we're even," she grinned. "Why does he throw muffins at you?" she asked. Tim had tried to explain, but she wanted to hear what his best mate said.

She was stumbling over her words. They were totally dating.

Odd question to ask. Why did he throw muffins at him? "Hmm. I never really thought about it. It's just a thing we have. Things get dull at the Tea Room after hours. So we throw things at each other," he stated matter-of-factly.

"That tail of his gives him an unfair advantage."

Emma laughed. "So basically when you're throwing two muffins at him, he could lob one at your head with his tail to throw you off?" she smirked. "How childish, and yet... charming," she laughed.

"Were you heading downstairs to get something to eat?" she asked. "Because, I could use something to drink if you want some company," she said.

"More charming than childish, I promise you." Marcus grinned impishly. It was nice to talk to somebody new. That way, he wouldn't be pestered about his 'feelings' so much.

He contemplated her offer. As much as he wanted to be sulky and alone, he'd done enough of that during the last two weeks. "Company would be nice. Tea? Coffee?"

"Yes, well, perhaps you would have been amused to see Tim covered in pink icing then," she laughed as they walked down the hall. When Tim had gone away to help Marcus, all she knew was that his friend was in need - she didn't know any details, and therefore could not ask.

"Coffee would be wonderful," she said as they walked into the Tea Room. "Instant pick-me-up if I'm going to make it through the second half of my shift."

"He also looks good covered in tomato sauce. Just a heads up if you're looking for more foods to dress him up in."

Per usual, there was nobody in the Tea Room. Marcus strode toward the back and put on the apron. It was nice to have the apron on instead of some itchy suit. It felt like home. Looking through the bean dispensaries, his eyes scanned the different origins. He decided that today was a Civet day.

Bringing out two cups of piping hot coffee, he set one down for Emma and one for himself.

"Let me know what you think of it. It has an interesting origin." He grinned as he sipped the cup.

Emma sat down near the door that led to the back. When Marcus returned she smiled and thanked him for the coffee. "You shouldn't have to work on your day off," she said, taking the hot mug between her hands. She inhaled the rich fumed then took a sip. "Hmmm, interesting. I don't know this blend," she told him, peering at him over the rim of the mug.

"It's made from weasel poop!" Marcus grinned over the rim of his cup before taking in a mouthful.

Emma let out a yelp, quicking putting down the cup. The coffee sloshed around and she stared over at him in shock. "What? Why? Why would you do that?" she exclaimed, suddenly having a horrible taste in her mouth.

His mouth became a wide impish grin.

"It's delicious, isn't it?" If you ignore the fat that it came through a weasel's anus, it was quite good, actually.

"I'm so... that's disgusting," she breathed, peering down at the coffee. She smelled the aroma and frowned over at him. "It's coffee though, how can it be made from... that..." Emma scrunched her nose.

Marcus brought the cup back up to his lips and took another sip. Mmm. Full bodied, he thought.

"Well," he began. "The weasels eat the fruit and the bean passes through their digestive system fairly whole. The whole chemistry of it changes, but therein lies the beauty of the drink."

He looked at her cup, still full. "I should have told you after you finished."

"Yes, you should have," Emma insisted, sitting back a little ways from the cup. "Now I am paranoid to drink it - sorry," she shrugged.

"So, do you work here, then? Tim told me that he had been looking for you here, but I thought you would have been passing through. What do you do?" she asked.

Marcus exaggerated a frown. He accio'd one of the pots of brew on hand and a new cup. He poured her a new mug of coffee.

"It's commercial," he reassured her.

"I do work here. I cook in the back. It's an easy job, but it makes me happy. Family doesn't approve much, but what can you do?" Marcus noted almost ruefully.

Emma had new found ideas on pleasing ones family. "Honestly, if it makes you happy and your family sees that your happy, hopefully they'll come around," she said promisingly. Of course, at this point she really had no one to please.

She thanked him for the fresh cup of coffee and fixed it to her liking. "So... curiousity is getting the best of me; anything you want to tel me about Tim?" she grinned.

"Other than the fact that he has a disgusting tail?" he took another sip of the coffee. She knew about that, right?

Emma sipped her coffee, shrugging a little. "I... it's not disgusting. It's just... there," she said, exactly as she'd said to Tim. "It's not his fault that it's there."

"He uses it in bed." Marcus stated matter-of-factly as he brought the mug back to his lips. Tim actually didn't tell him that. Marcus just wanted to see Emma's reaction.

Emma smirked in return. "Yes, well if I had good lasagna, I would forgive, as well," she assured him. "I have definitely enjoyed this little insight into your friend. I have enjoyed spending time with him. I hope you'll give him an equally good report about me," Emma smiled sweetly.

"Of course," Marcus grinned. She was a sweet girl. "I'll also let him know that you don't enjoy coffee made from animal excrement."
