Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Lisa and Roger and Brighton
What: dinner time at the Davies residence
Where: see above
When: Tonight! or, the night after Halloween, for reference
Rated: Low because of young ears

Lisa felt like she had just left Roger's flat. It had only been a few days, but it felt like she might be overstaying her welcome. It was weird because she'd never felt like that before. She was usually at his flat more than twice a week. He wasn't always there, though, so she wasn't sure if things would be awkward. After all, they'd established some sort of dating agreement between the two of them at their last outing. But it had been so long since Lisa had actually dated anyone that she didn't know the rules-- if there were rules.

She was prepared, though. With a steaming dish of macaroni and cheese and hot dogs, she knocked confidently-- or what she hoped was confidence. She was anxious to see Roger again. And more importantly, incredibly curious as to what he planned on telling Brightion, if at all.

"Dad's showering." Brighton looked back down the hall. "I think he thought you were coming at six-thirty."

The water stopped running and Roger's wet head poked out of the bathroom door. "Wait... what time is it?"

Lisa looked from Brighton to the hallway where Roger's head was sticking out. "Six-thirty five," she said, loud enough for him to hear. "I'll just put this on the stove. Finish up."

She moved into the house, closing the door behind him. "Brighton, want to help me set the table?" She put the warm dish on the stove. Thankfully she'd thought to cover it with aluminum to keep it warm. Though, she could always heat it a bit with her wand later if it cooled off.

She grabbed a few plates out of the cabinet. "I'll do these, and you do silverware?"

Roger came out clean and well-dressed a few minutes later. He wasn't sure what to do when he greeted Lisa, seeing as Brighton was in the room and watching. So he just hugged her. "Good to see you."

Brighton dropped a fork, wiped it on his necktie, and put it on the table.

"You too," she said, blushing as he embraced her. When she pulled away, she sized him up. "You're both dressed so nicely. What's the occasion?" She was teasing, of course. Though, she wasn't as nicely put together as Roger and Brighton. "I love that tie, Brighton. It matches your eyes."

"Oh, Brighton's been living in that tie this week," Roger said. "And well, ninety percent of my clothes are work clothes."

He went to get a glass of water for her. "How was work?"

"Same old, same old. Marcus made something no one wants to try, and then griped about it the entire shift. Thankfully, I'm not eating at home tonight, because it would most definitely be on the menu." She grimaced at the thought. "How about you?"

She grabbed the dish of macaroni off the stove and removed the foil cover. It was still really hot. There was no need for a warming charm.

"Not much. I have an appointment tomorrow. Intern allegedly used the wrong charm and turned a woman's hair purple. They've been trying to fix it all afternoon. She's livid."

"Hmm. Purple hair sounds interesting. Like a nice change." Course, there were obviously some people who disagreed with that. She placed the dish on the table and grabbed a serving spoon. She stood there for a minute, trying to decide if they needed anything else before taking a seat. If anything cropped up, she'd just get up and get it. No need to let the food get cold.

She handed Roger the big spoon. "Here. You can go first."

He scooped out three plate fulls (well, Brighton's was half a plate) and stabbed his fork into his. "Any crazy people in the tea room?"

Lisa shook her head and scooped some macaroni onto her fork. "Not really. Cheryl tried to start a fight with me but Marcus just threw toast at her and she stopped." She winked at Roger.

Roger cocked an eyebrow and stared at her, unsure of what to make of that comment. He hesitated, getting a bite of macaroni close to his mouth but not eating it. "I don't know if that was a joke."

"Why would that be a joke?" Brighton asked.

"It wasn't a joke," Lisa said to Brighton. "Marcus doesn't have very good manners. He likes to throw toast at people to get his way." She frowned and took a bite of macaroni to stop herself from trying to make any more jokes.

"Who is Marcus?" Brighton asked through a mouth full of macaroni. Classy. "Is he your boyfriend?"

Lisa swallowed and quickly glanced at Roger hoping she was fast enough that he didn't notice. "He's my best friend. Kind of like a brother. He's really protective."

"He cooks in the tea room," Roger explained. Was now the time to have this conversation? Maybe after dinner they could talk to Brighton. Roger was letting his segue go.

Lisa nodded. She wondered if she should mention that he lived with her, but then decided against it. That was information that Brighton didn't need. It would surely get misinterpreted. "How is it?" She tried to change the subject.

Brighton took another bite and chewed it slowly, thinking this over. "Better without the broccoli," he finally said. "Nutrition is for rabbits."

Roger laughed.

"Broccoli?" Lisa was confused. She never made macaroni with broccoli. Though, she supposed, she probably wasn't the only one who cooked for Brighton, which kind of made her jealous. "Nutrition is for boys who want to grow up strong like their dad."

"Yeah," Roger said, "But carrots have different vitamins than green vegetables. You like green beans though, right?"

Brighton nodded.

"I'll have to bring some green beans next time. I cook them with bacon so they taste extra good." She took a sip of water and glanced at Roger. Things were definitely different than they were the other day. Obviously it had to do with Brighton. He probably didn't want to tell him.

Roger finished eating his macaroni and started clearing away his plate. He took Brighton's as soon as it was done, dropping the dishes all in the sink.

She took her last bite, chewed and stood to bring her plate over to the sink as well. "I could wash these if you'd like?" She asked. She usually did the dishes when she babysat anyways.

Roger put his hand on her back. "It's alright. We'll leave them for later. We should talk to Brighton before he has to go to bed, right?" That had been the plan tonight, after all.

Oh! So they were going to talk to Brighton? Lisa had just assumed that Roger didn't want to tell him. "If you're sure," she said, because she wanted to gauge his reaction.

"I mean..." did she not want to? "He's gotta find out some time, right? And I'd rather him not think we feel the need to keep it a secret."
