Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione and Lavender
When: Friday for lunch (before her date with Ron!)
Where: Lavender and Kevin's Flat
What: Hermione wants to see her friend!

Hermione had the day off today. She spent a little bit of time in her apartment cleaning in the morning, then showered and dressed, stopped by the deli where she and Lavender had lunch sometimes and picked up some sandwiches, then headed off to visit Lavender at her and Kevin's flat.

She knocked on the door, holding a large bag of food from the deli.

Lavender dug right into her salads, listening with rapture - any gossip was good gossip at this point. "Oh, no - he did not!" she exclaimed. "How did that happen? Poor Ron, he must have been mortified!" she breathed, sipping her water. "How did you get him to go to a museum?" she added.

"I think I distracted him. I'm not really sure. Well, he knocked over a pillar first..." Hermione said, going pink. "But the vase actually shattered, and they kicked us out."

Hermione had never been kicked out of a museum before.

Lavender covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. But, it was kind of funny. "Oh...that's just awful. Well.. was it a good kind of distraction? I mean, it might have been kind of a good thing?" she offered a small smile.

"I don't know. He felt so horrible afterward." Hermione was actually a bit saddened by it. "At least he's going to come over and make me dinner tonight. I feel awful that he was so downhearted after the museum."

"Oh, Hermione," she pouted. "Honestly, if he felt bad then... then..." Lavender couldn't come up with anything. "Obviously he cares... or he wouldn't have cared about the vase," she tried.

Hermione gave a little nod. She sighed softly, setting down her fork. "I care about him so much, and I know he cares about me." She paused.

"Why should it be so hard, then? Why do we always seem to trip over ourselves?"

"Maybe it's hard so you have to realize that it's worth it," she reasoned. "If you can make it through this, then it's meant to be. I mean, he's coming over to make you dinner - that has to be worth something," she said, taking a bite of her sandwich. "You know... Ron was the one who found me, helped me get to the hospital."

"I suppose." Hermione said. She sighed and leaned back against the sofa. "I know. I'm glad it was him." It was good for Ron's ego, and it was good for Lavender--for obvious reasons.

Lavender shifted on the couch, balancing her plate on her bump - a new favorite activity for her. She kept waiting for the baby to kick at it. "I was, too - it was good to see such a familiar face after months of being alone for the most part," she admitted, quiet for a moment.

Hermione nearly snorted when she saw Lavender balance the plate on her baby bump. That was adorable. She wanted a picture.

But the subject matter wasn't funny in the slightest. Hermione was curious, but wasn't going to press for details. She kept her fork busy for a moment, giving Lavender the opportunity to talk more about it if she wanted to.

Lavender glanced over at Hermione. "It's OK, you can ask," she said softly. "I've already had several people tell me I should see a therepist. So... why not start talking now?" she shrugged. Kevin was the only person she'd talked to, and even he didn't know a lot of the details - she couldn't scar him like that.

Was she really that transparent? Hermione's jaw went a little slack.

"Well, I... I don't know what to ask. I want you to have someone to talk to if you want to talk to someone." She added, softly. "What happened?" She asked, leaning in a little.

Lavender sighed, leaning forward to set her plate down. "I was leaving the maternity wing and a man, his name was Neal, grabbed me from behind and at first I thought he apparated us away but it was so much worse then that," she said. "He used a time turner and took us back to six months ago. I didn't realize it until I escaped but I was in that abandoned across from the Leaky Cauldron in muggle London. Right under everyone's noses but he'd cast all sorts of undetctable charms," she said softly.

"Anyway, he took me back so he could observe the changes over time - you and I don't change in six months... but this little one did," she said, gesturing toward the baby.

Hermione nodded, rapt with attention to the story. She paused for a moment.

"And... did he hurt you? While he kept you prisoner?" She asked, with indignation. If this 'Neal' person laid a finger on Lavender... Hermione would exact her revenge.

She shook her head quickly. "No, he actually never touched me at all. He kept his distance. Every day he would bring me food, nothing I could keep down in the beginning, but he fed me. And he always brought me clothes and bathroom ameneties," she assured Hermione. "Every three days he waved his wand to take measurements of the baby... and I made him bring me a newspaper every day to keep track of the timeline."

"Oh." Hermione was a little relieved, but still what the man did was deplorable. She hated him on principle, and would have done really horrible things to him if she could.

"But six months of solitude." She commented softly. "That can't have been easy to get through."

Lavender shook her head, swallowing a lump in her throat. "Kevin could have walked right by... so could you and I didn't know. I couldn't call for help... there was nothing I could do," she breathed. "He just... kept me locked up so he could study and... and he was going to take her from me.." she said, tears starting to roll down her cheeks.

Hermione scooted closer, moving both of their plates to the coffee table. She wrapped an arm around Lavender's shoulders.

"He'll never come near you again." Hermione said. She was going to make sure of it if the courts didn't.

Lavender let out a short laugh. "Well, no... of course not!" she cried. "He had his wand to my throat... then he told me to run and pointed it at himself!" she sobbed, turning to hold Hermione. She cried softly into her shoulder.

Hermione wrapped her arms around Lavender and let her cry. She really didn't know what else to say. Perhaps Lav just needed to cry it out.

Lavender cried softly, sniffling lightly as she finally pulled back. "I... wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It was like a mind game... just waiting for everything to end," she whispered, reaching to the end table for a tissue.

Hermione nodded. She drew her handkerchief out of her pocket and held it out to Lavender.

"I'm so sorry," Hermione whispered.

Lavender accepted the cloth, wiping at her eyes. "It's OK now, though. The baby and I are fine... Kevin is coming around..." Lavender smiled, fiddling with Hermione's handkerchief. "We're to paint the baby's room this weekend.. and talk about names so I don't have to keep calling her 'the baby,'" Lavender laughed.

"Maybe we can play a game where everyone makes suggestions for a name!" she exclaimed. "Wow, that would just take the job of picking right out of my hands! It would be fun!" she laughed, wiping at her eyes again. "I never thought it would be hard to name a baby, but it's important."

"It is. But I'm sure you'll come up with the perfect name." Hermione said, smiling warmly. "We'll have that be one of the games, sure. That sounds like a great game."
