Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who? Emma and Tim
When? Wednesday night
Where? Wherever he's taking her for dinner!
What? Tim is taking Emma out
Rating? TBD

Emma rushed home from work and quickly changed out of her pink nursing robes and jumped in the shower. It was the fastest shower she'd ever taken and once she was dry, she ran to her closet and rifled through her things until she found a dress to wear. It was probably too much, but she never went out after work and she wanted to look nice. It was a, for all intents and purposes, a little black dress, and she had great heels to go with it. Now, if only there was the perfect wrap, sweater, or jacket to go with it, but nothing did! Emma grabbed a small black jacket just incase then dashed back to her bathroom to charm her hair dry so it hung in soft curls around her shoulder and just put on a touch of make-up. She'd learned through her years at school that guys didn't go for the heavy make-up look judging from the girls in her dorm. She added a few dabs of her favorite perfume but was careful to not go overboard - she hoped she wasn't overdoing it.

Once she was ready, and just in time, the door bell rang and she collected herself before walking down the hallway to let him in. Emma opened the door, and smiled when she saw Tim. Yeah, she definitely had a crush on this guy.

It was nice. Not busy or cluttered. He liked that. He turned to her and stepped closer. "Oh, sure."

His hands were a bit fumbly. He hadn't put a necklace on anyone since before his mother died. He reached up and took the necklace. It only took him a moment to clasp it--thank goodness.

"It's beautiful." He whispered, his fingers lingering on the skin of her neck before letting them fall.

Emma lifted her hair off her neck, her back to him as he fastened the clasp. She pursed her lips, her eyes fluttering a little when she felt his warm fingers on her neck. "Thanks..." she said softly. "They're my parents rings... I don't wear the necklace to work.. afraid of breaking it," she told him, dropping her hair as she turned to him.

"So... where are we going?" she asked, pulling her black coat on.

Tim nodded. He could understand. Well, not really... he assumed her parents passed--that's what he would have done if it wasn't so girly. He still had his parents' rings.

"Somewhere nice?" Tim said, breaking into a grin. "I figured I'd make it a surprise."

"A surprise?" she couldn't but grin - his was contageous. "Well, if it's somewhere nice then I didn't over dress," she said, grabbing a small bag off the table then headed for the door. "All right then... lead the way? I don't have a floo network here so... just... OK, you lead," she said, dropping her hands to her sides. Emma was silly for acting silly - it was just Tim! Like him or not, she didn't need to act like a silly girl around him.

Tim raised an eyebrow. She was acting a little silly. He held a hand out to her to lead her out the front door.

"You don't mind side-long apparition, do you?"

Emma shook her head, deciding to shut up before she scared him away. "No, it's fine," she assured him as they walked outside. It made her a little dizzy, but nothing permanant. Emma moved closer to him, looping her arm through his.

Tim hugged her arm close to his body, then turned on the spot. They disappeared and reappeared in front of a very fancy, Wizarding Italian restaurant.

Tim paused for a moment, looking up at the building. It was in a Wizarding neighborhood, so the fact that they appeared on the street wouldn't turn heads.

Emma closed her eyes, feeling the spin then opened them slowly so she didn't get dizzy. Looking up at the building, her eyes went a little wide. It was one of her parents' favorite restaurants; fancy, ritzy, very exclusive. "Wow," she breathed, looking up at him. "You do good with surprises," she smiled as she continued to hold his arm.

Tim broke into a smile. "I'm glad you like it." He hadn't made reservations, but his father was friends with maitre-d before he'd passed. Tim always got a table--not that he came here all that often, but the maitre-d was fond of him.

"C'mon." He led the way up the front steps and into the restaurant. "Two, please." He said.

Five minutes later, after a brief conversation with the maitre-d and introductions, (Tim had to give the man a brief update on his life and promise to write more often) they were seated at a rather nice table in the back, their menus open in front of them, and a complimentary bottle of wine being poured into their glasses.

Emma was beyond impressed. Tim was a gentleman, a nice guy and he clearly had good taste in restaurants. Emma would like to say that she would be OK with wherever he chose to go, but Emma had high standards - she was just raised that way. Her jacket had been taken for her, her chair held out for her and her menu opened for her. She said her thank-yous in a soft tone, smiling over at Tim as she settled into her seat.

She wondered if Tim was always like this. "This is... amazing," she smiled over at him, glancing up from her menu. Once the wine was poured and they were alone for the moment, Emma lifted her glass. "I think we should drink to our Brink-of-Death moment," she grinned, "and finding better ways to spending time together then a Brink-of-Death moment," she laughed softly.

Tim gave Emma a grin over the top of his menu. He loved impressing girls like this. Truth was, his father had made a lot of contacts before he died, and was generally well-liked--among the non-pureblood-elitist crowd. Tim kept up those contacts as best he could, mostly by continuing his father's business.

"Here's to that." Tim said, lifting his wine glass to clink against hers, then sip. He wasn't sure what kind of wine it was, but free was always the best kind. "What are you in the mood for tonight?" He asked, setting his glass back down again.

Emma sipped her wine, letting the rich liquid slide down her throat. "Oh, well isn't that a loaded question," she winked flirtatiously, then went back to her menu. "Mmmm, well the braised duck sounds delicious, if the duck is cooked just right," she said, glancing at her other choices. "Although, a good puttanesca can never be turned down," she smiled.

Tim gave a laugh. He honestly hadn't meant it that way, but it was adorable that she'd picked up on the double meaning. So, he was having some sort of affect on her, was he? He grinned at the flirtatious wink, and gave a little shake of his head. "What an adorable response." He commented softly, watching her face as she read the menu.

"I've never had problems with the duck here." He added, turning to his own menu. "Though, I think I'll have the seafood pasta special."

Emma smiled sweetly. "I can be adorable when I want to," she beamed, lowering her eyes to the menu again. Emma knew her cheeks had pinkened, but she hope it was in an adorable way, and not embarassing.

"Well, then if you say it's good, then I'll have to go with the braised duck," she declared. Their waiter appeared and Emma placed her order, handing off her menu before turning to Tim. "So... what should we talk about?" she smiled, sipping her wine.

"I'm learning that." Tim responded softly, still watching her. She was incredibly cute, wasn't she? He wanted to kiss her. It was coming from a different place than where he normally wanted to kiss girls. He was thinking with his head and his heart rather than... you know.

Tim placed his order as well, and the waiter wandered off to go get their salads.

"Whatever you like." Tim responded, leaning back in his chair. He was rather comfortable with her, and he liked that.

Emma rested back in her chair, though she tried to stay sitting up straight, looking like a lady, and not slouching. "Well, if we can avoid work-talk, that would be nice. Seeing as work has been horrible these past few days," she sighed, sipping her wine. The department was in shambles and her mother had been moved to an intensive care unit having suffered a minor head injury in the accident.

"OK, why don't you tell me how you knew the maitre-d," she said, gesturing to where they'd come in.

"Absolutely." Tim was tired of talking about work. And he was tired of talking about the explosion and the aftermath. He'd taken time to heal, and gone back to work--but that didn't mean he wanted to talk about it.

"Oh." He grinned softly. "He was a friend of my father's. My father owned and operated a mail-order potions supplies business. I run it now out of my spare bedroom."

"Oh, that's interesting," she said sincerely. She leaned close to the table again to listen intently. "I had no idea that you had another job outside of the hospital. How on earth do you find the time to do it all?" Emma asked with a soft laugh. "I go home after a shift and want to sleep..."

"Well, I only work the Potions business on the weekends... and it's really small." After his father died, most of the company died with him.

"But it's fun. Good to keep in contact with my dad's closest customers." He gave a little shrug. "I probably work too hard. But I couldn't just let the business die." His father's legacy.

"Well that's something," she said, "I suppose I would feel the same way." Her father left her with a decent name and more than a decent inheritance. of course, most of that was going toward helping her mother. Emma frowned and picked up her wine, taking a hearty sip at the thought of her parents.

Smiling again, she set down her wine. "Tell me about when you were in school. Did you play Quidditch or did you hide behind your Ravenclaw genius?"

"It's important to me to continue my father's legacy." He responded, then shrugged softly.

"My Ravenclaw genius?" He asked, laughing. "Right. No no, I played Quidditch. Quidditch was my life." He commented, still grinning. "Besides studying and girls, of course."

"Seriously, don't all Ravenclaws carry books around in their sleep?" she teased. "I know the Ravenclaw team must have had books on their brooms when I was in school because they couldn't play Quidditch to save their lives," she smirked. Emma was a diehard Slytherin, and even though the Gryffindor team was often ahead of them, Slytherin was often ahead of Ravenclaw.

"No, we generally stay in one place when we sleep." Tim responded, raising an eyebrow. "We don't carry them anywhere. 'Sides, it's easier to read when you lay still. Even better, when you're sleeping."

He snorted. "Suuuure they were."

Emma laughed, covering her mouth to hide the unlady-like loud sound. "You have a retort for everything, Mr. Blenkinsop," she laughed.

"They couldn't play - ask anyone who dominated over the Ravenclaw team after you left. They were at the bottom of the chain, my friend," she insisted.

"Well, I try." Tim responded, grinning.

"Below Hufflepuff? Somehow, I sincerely doubt that." He responded, shaking his head. "We won the cup twice while I was at Hogwarts."
