Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Harry and Ron
When: Wednesday Night
Where: The Leaky
What: Drinks between best mates

Ron needed to talk to Harry. Because out of everyone he knew, Harry knew Ron the best. Plus, they really didn't spend as much time together as they use to. Harry was married and they both worked a lot and occasionally Ron felt like maybe Harry didn't have time for him. Which depressed him completely.

He'd gone to the Leaky after dinner at home. Ron was sitting at a table, nursing an ale as he waited for Harry to show up. He really didn't want something as simple as beers with Harry to go as badly as his date with Hermione, but Ron still couldn't shake what had happened.

The knowledge that he had been spied on only frustrated Ron further. He wanted to do things right with Hermione and was worried enough about it without knowing everyone else was watching.

"I'm going to her flat on Friday to cook dinner for her. It has to go better than our date or I don't think she'll go out with me again." He had waited a long time to try for Hermione. Ron really didn't want to screw it up.

"She's so perfect, you know? She deserves someone impressive and rich and more like you."

"Oh, ew, no Hermione and I would not be a good match." Harry crinkled his nose. "No, I think you're perfect for her. Just... you know... wear clean socks and relax."

This wasn't helping. And he always wore clean socks. His mum did all his laundry.

Deciding to change the subject, Ron shifted gears. "How's work for you? Anything new?"

"Just working on the hospital explosion. Draco was definitely the target." Harry had a hard time picking suspects because, honestly, who didn't have motive to kill him?

"Malfoy is a wanker," Ron said quickly. Nothing was ever going to change his opinion about that. "I wouldn't be sorry to see him six feet under."

Ron waved his hand for another round. "You need help with it?" Ron hated asking, he really did. He didn't get the good assignments like Harry did. Right now he was working on tracking down some Dark objects that had been stolen from Gringotts. Hardly exciting.

"Actually," he lowered his voice, "We have a lead on the poisonings. Namely a political group. I uh-- well they're anti-Kingsley because they don't think he's militant enough." Harry had a feeling that if this group was involved, they'd need to map who the key members were to find suspects.

Ron pulled out his wand and cast a privacy charm, ensuring he and Harry weren't overheard. "If that's the case, I can only assume they are hoping to push the Ministry in a different direction by their actions. When you are unhappy with someone's tacit, you push them towards what you want. Odds are they have a few underlings they wouldn't mind sacrificing if the end result was a more aggressive Ministry."

"That is if we're to assume that terror is their tactic. I don't know if that's it. I think it's more arrogant than that. They're playing God. They're taking justice into their own hands, punishing those they feel slipped through the system."

"Right," Ron said and leaned back in his chair. "Sure, that makes sense." Ron gratefully took the beer and drank some of it when it arrived. "So make a list of people like Malfoy and figure out their weaknesses."

"Well, if we assume the poisoning and the explosion were the same culprit, we're looking for someone talented with potions," he explained. "Knows how to brew a good poison at home-- because no apothecary can report selling a lot of poison lately-- and knows what to swap out for a common ingredient to ensure a big bang."

"You're assuming the apothecaries were being honest with you," Ron pointed out. People lied. He'd learned that a long time ago. "I don't know, but if it were me I'd look closer into various apothecaries. Seems like a good place for a potion master to hide. But that's just me. Not my investigation."

Harry nodded, making a mental note. "Yeah, I'll have to do background checks on them all. See who lost loved ones in the war."

Ron smiled a bit when Harry didn't shoot down his suggestion. It was nice, every once in awhile, to come up with an idea that wasn't shot down.

"If you need help," he offered and took another drink of his beer. Ron really did wish he worked with Harry more, but he knew that wasn't Harry's call.

"You'll be the first one I owl. And Hermione, because she's smarter than the both of us put together," Harry said with a crooked half-smile.
