Hermione Granger studies harder than you. ([info]her_my_nee) wrote in [info]my_rpg,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione and Ron
When: Backdated to Saturday
Where: Hermione's place, then the museum
What: A date.

Hermione was still shaken from the explosion on Wednesday. But there wasn't much she could do besides help rebuild, help read through legal paperwork, help answer questions. It seemed to be all she did lately was help. She'd gone straight back to work the next day, (okay, a little later than normal since she needed some extra sleep that night) and let Ron know that she was still up for their date over the weekend.

She'd been looking forward to it for a long time.

She spent the day tidying her apartment, taking a long bath and getting ready for Ron to come over. There were butterflies in her stomach, so she didn't eat lunch. She put on one of her nicer outfits, and wandered the apartment aimlessly, as if looking for something else to do to waste time until Ron came over to get her.

"Ready." Hermione turned to follow him to the museum. She was looking forward to seeing the art, but she knew it wasn't Ron's favorite thing in the world. She wouldn't take as much time as if she was on her own.

Ron presented the clerk with their tickets for the exhibit on Aztec ruins and followed Hermione through the exhibit. He did his best to look interested and even asked a few questions from time to time. But mostly he stared at her. While she was examining the objects and displays, Ron was looking at the way her hair curled and the thoughtful expressions on her face.

She was perfect.

Leaning against something as he watched her, Ron didn't feel it start to wobble until it was too late. A large pillar fell over and Ron jumped, instantly going red. "Shit!"

Hermione followed him into the exhibit, but was incredibly distracted by looking at the ancient artifacts. She didn't even notice him gazing at her.

Until he knocked over a pillar. "Ron!" She nearly shrieked. At least the pillar was more for decoration, and didn't seem to be holding any exhibits. And there were a bunch of people around... maybe they could just slip into the crowd and not get kicked out? Somehow, Hermione didn't think it likely.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry," Ron exclaimed as he scurried to pick it up. It was pretty light. And hollow. He picked it back up, his face bright red. A few people from the museum hurried over, looking as though Ron had just set fire to a library.

"It was an accident. I'm really sorry." Way to go, Weasley. He was about to ruin a date with Hermione because he couldn't pay attention to some old bowls.

He looked over at Hermione, an apologetic and embarrassed expression on his face. "It was my fault, really."

"It's okay." Hermione said, stepping closer to him. "I'm sure they understand."

The museum official and the security officer seemed more amused than anything else. The exhibit pillar looked as if this wasn't the first time it'd been knocked over.

Hermione took Ron's hand to lead him away, apologizing to the gentlemen. Looks like they weren't going to be kicked out afterall! But Hermione was going to have to keep a closer watch on Ron.

This was a disaster. His attempt at Hermione had failed horribly. Now every time she thought about this, she was going to remember that he made a fool out of himself. Brilliant.

It had taken him years to feel like he might deserve Hermione and now all of that was thrown away because he couldn't even get through one date without being an idiot.

"Sorry," he said again.

"It's all right." Hermione repeated, leading him away from the pillars and toward another exhibit. "I'm sure that sort of thing happens all the time."

She let go of his hand once they were a substantial distance from the pillar he'd knocked over. She didn't notice that they were being followed.

"What would you like to look at next?"

Ron frowned a bit when she dropped his hand. He had liked that. A lot. Sticking his hands into his pockets, Ron shrugged his shoulders. "I don't care," he answered honestly. "I mean, whatever you want to look at. Honestly, this is for you more than me."

"Well, follow me, then." She said, turning to walk down the hall at the next exhibit. Modern Art. Hermione didn't really understand it, but at least it was something interesting to look at. And if Ron knocked something over, he wouldn't be destroying a piece of ancient art.

He followed behind her, trying to think of a way he could salvage the date and make her forget that he'd ruined it in the first place. Looking up at the walls, Ron made a face. What in the hell was he supposed to be looking at? Big canvases with drops of paint on them and a picture of a... was that a toad? What the hell?

He turned around to look at a sculpture of a naked woman (well, hey, he was a guy) and didn't notice his elbow knocking into a tall, clear glass vase.

He did, however, notice when it shattered all over the floor.

"FUCK! SHIT!" Ron reached for his wand to repair it and then realised they were surrounded by Muggles.

"Oh, God!" Hermione rushed forward to tuck Ron's wand away. "Ron!" She hissed. The security guard and Museum curator came running over. Hermione had to think fast. She couldn't think of anything to do, though--there were too many muggles around, and it wasn't worth the risk to do magic. They'd surely get caught. Everyone was looking at them--after the sound of the crash.

Ten minutes later, Hermione and Ron had been thrown out of the museum. Hermione cast a confunding charm on the security guard, and a second one on the curator. Since they were the ones holding them, and couldn't remember what'd happened, Hermione and Ron were asked to leave and not come back.

It wasn't the brightest thing in the world for Hermione to do, she was probably going to get an owl about performing magic in front of muggles, but it was worth it not to get put in jail for destroying museum property.

Oh fucking brilliant. Ron couldn't even look at Hermione. He walked out of the museum with a bright red face and kicked the first thing he could find. It happened to be a light post and it hurt like hell since he was just wearing his trainers. "Fuck," he mumbled.

"Look. I'm sorry. This was supposed to go better."

Hermione winced a little when Ron kicked the streetlight. She turned to look at him, frowning a little. Sure, it wasn't the best date they'd ever had, but...

"It's all right, Ron. Really." She said, reaching for his hand with her own. She squeezed it once.

"It's not all right. You know it's not." Ron kept looking down at the pavement, unable to meet Hermione's eyes. "I think I'm going to go back home. I'm not hungry anymore."

He was starving actually, but Ron couldn't imagine keeping the date going after how badly he fucked it up.

"Oh." Hermione was rather disappointed. Even though they'd had a rough time of it in the museum, she was still looking forward to spending time with him.

"I suppose when I get home there'll be an owl from the Ministry waiting for me about those confunding charms." She added, letting go of his hand and taking a step back. "I'll see you later, then?"

Great. On top of ruining their date, Ron had gotten her in trouble with the Ministry. This really, really couldn't have gone worse. He just nodded, hating himself for ruining their date.

She must think he was the world's biggest idiot.

"Yeah. See you later." And with that, Ron stalked off towards the closest pub he could find.

"Bye." Hermione said, watching him go for a moment. Then she wandered back to the alley to which they'd apparated so she could apparate back home.
