Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione and Audrey
When: This morning
Where: Audrey's office
What: Soon to be Sister-in-laws catching up!
Rating: TBD

Hermione was tired of researching. It was a first for her. Sometimes she'd catch her second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth winds... this time nothing. She was tired of reading the same things over and over in newspaper articles, magazines and books. She was sick of reading that sections of books were expunged because of Ministry security. She was exhausted from staying up most of the night and not getting enough to eat while she was doing her research.

And she prayed to God that Harry and Ron would find and fillet this guy. Poor Lavender. Poor Audrey.

Hermione was in the hospital. She'd stopped by to check in with the temporary-shop-girl, and drop off a hot tea. It must've been hard to fill Lavender Brown's shoes. Then she headed upstairs to go and visit Audrey and bring her some tea, too. One of Hermione's self-designated jobs was to make sure everyone had enough tea. Staying hydrated and slightly caffeinated was a very important thing.

She stopped at Audrey's office door and knocked.

"Your situation?" Audrey's tone was polite and sweet, not pushing Hermione in the slightest. "And there is nothing to say that one person's troubles cancel out your own feelings, Hermione. You're entitled to feel and think whatever you wish, no matter what is going on around you."

That was such a psychiatrist answer. Hermione broke into a little smirk. Audrey was going to make a fantastic mother someday.

"Yes, well... it's silly." Hermione shrugged. "I've got a schoolgirl crush, and other people are being kidnapped and poisoned." She felt very childish for worrying about her relationship with Ron while other people were in so much danger and trouble.

"That makes sense. It's natural to want to have someone in your life to lean on when the world seems to be turning upside down. And, if I'm not mistaken, a good number of your school friends are in very different places in their lives these days, aren't they? I can see how you would focus your thoughts on what you perceive to be missing from your life."

Audrey took another drink of her tea and leaned back in her chair slightly. "It's Ronald, isn't it?"

"They are." Hermione said, giving Audrey a bit of a smirk. She was very good at what she did, wasn't she?

Hermione's reaction to Ron's name was answer enough. She went scarlet, and turned to look down into lap. "Of course it is." She said, unable to keep the smile from her face.

She finally looked up after a moment. "It's always been Ron."

She knew that feeling. From the moment she laid eyes on Percy, Audrey knew he was the only person in the world she could ever really love. She knew that certainty. It was so scary and so comforting at the same time.

Giving Hermione a gentle smile, Audrey set her tea down. "You cannot judge your life by the lives of others. Would you care for Ron any less or any more if none of your friends were married?"

Hermione si[[ed her own tea, trying not to be as red as she was. It was futile, of course. She couldn't help the rosy hue on her cheeks when she talked about her feelings for Ron.

"Probably not." Hermione responded. "I can't imagine loving him any more or any less." She added, not even thinking twice about using the word 'love.'

"Then I wouldn't worry so much about how you stack up against others. Your relationship will unfold at it's own pace. If you rush it or try to force it into something it's not ready to be, it will crack. And those small cracks will eventually do it in." Audrey didn't know Ron as well as some of the other Weasleys, but she knew the way Weasley men tended to think. "I cannot imagine it was easy being the youngest in a family so dominated by success and expectations. Give him time, Hermione. Let him come to you at his own pace."

Hermione gave a gentle nod. She wasn't really comparing herself with her friends, she was just sort of hoping that they could actually start a relationship. It seemed like they'd gone on a couple dates after being crazy about each other for years, and now they'd stalled.

"I suppose it's just a waiting game now." She said, shrugging. "I've been waiting for him for years, and I'll continue until he's ready."

"Sometimes, as much as we hate it, we have to wait for the things we want. Believe me, I've done my fair share of waiting." And she'd keep waiting. Audrey would wait and hold her breath every single month for years to come until she was pregnant.

Hermione nodded. She knew that Audrey and Percy were doing their share of waiting. And it was causing a lot of stress for them--and for the rest of the family. She wished she could help, but it wasn't the kind of thing you brought up.

"As much as I wish things would happen soon," Hermione said, choosing her words carefully, "I would rather things happened right."
