Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Leanne and Marcus
WHAT: First Post! At the pub, Saturday night drinking.
WHERE: Leaky Cauldron

Leanne was glad to have the weekends off. It gave her free time to try and get over this silly crush she'd been feeling for so long. Katie was her best friend, and she knew that nothing was going to happen there, but she couldn't help but feel it. Deep in her bones. As if it encompassed all she was and all that she had.

She was on her third firewhiskey/butterbeer combination of the night. It was a pretty gross drink to most people, but she liked the combination of the sweet butterbeer with the bitter firewhiskey. It had a nice kick, tasted sweet, and knocked her on her bottom.

The room was warm and fuzzy when she noticed someone headed toward her table.

"Not exactly." No bloke got close enough for that. "Just coming to the realization that the things I wish for will never happen." She took on a somber tone for a moment, then shrugged.

"And I like drinking lots of alcohol." The grin came back. "Especially with good company."

She leaned close to look at his bottle. "I never drink anything I can't pronounce."

"Amen," he replied to her comment about wishes that'll never happen. "I'll drink to that." Marcus clanked his bottle against her glass.

"You're missing out on a world of excitement then, Crusty." Marcus took a healthy swig from his ale, contorting his face into a cheeky wink. "What company are you with?"

Leanne lifted her glass after the clink from his bottle. "Cheers," she spoke gently, then took a gulp.

"Why, me, myself and I o'course." She smirked playfully. Her accent was getting thicker as the alcohol kicked in. "And now you, too."

"Geez Crusty, you're starting to sound like a whopped baby." Marcus was curious to hear that realization she was talking about earlier. It always made his problems feel better when he heard about how shitty others were. Besides, the alcohol wasn't getting to him yet. He was only starting his second bottle.

"What's your excuse, honestly?"

"Things don't ever seem to go my way." Leanne said, then took another sip from her glass. "I have feelings for someone who doesn't share them." she didn't want to admit who... that'd make her feel even worse--so she thought.

"Tell me about it," he scoffed. Unrequited feelings were his life story at the moment. "It's especially torture if you have to see them day to day to day," Marcus took another swig of his beer. "And nights too, sometimes."

"Sometimes I don't know whether it'd be better just not to be friends at all. I suspect it'd hurt less." Leanne gave a bit of a shrug. "Though, I really don't know what I'd do without her in my life." The pronoun slipped out. Normally she would have played the 'hiding the pronoun' game.

Marcus raised an eyebrow at her as he took another healthy swig from his bottle. He was debating whether or not he heard the right thing. And what to say.

She definitely said her.

"...her? As in...a girl?" he asked.

Oh, shit.

Leanne struggled inwardly for a moment. A long noment. She didn't know whether to try and deny it, spin it as a joke, or confess. Though, the longer she sat there in stupefied silence, the harder it'd be to deny.

"...What? No, I... Not a girl, no..." Leanne was a terrible liar. Her face was red and blotchy, and she wouldn't make eye contact.

His eyes became wide and his mouth became a perfect O. She was terrible at lying. He'd never seen her with a guy, but that didn't stop him from being surprised. He didn't expect that from her.

She suddenly became ten times hotter.

"Leanne! How did...what...wh-" He didn't know what he wanted to say, there were so many things going on in his head right now. Like how she found out. Or who it was. Or what two girls did exactly if there was no phal--well. He'll save that question for later.

"YOU'RE A LEZZIE?" He said a little too loudly.

Leanne was suddenly mortified. And with good reason. She nearly stood to try and shush him.

"Marcus Belby!" She shook her head. "I am not a..." Her voice was raised, too, and she realized it. She swallowed, and lowered her voice considerably. "Just because I'm in love with a woman doesn't mean I'm a lesbian."

...was she?

"I like men, too." She added, then waved to the bartender for another drink.

"OH MERLIN! YOU'RE--" Marcus shushed himself realizing how loud he was. Stuff like this was supposed to be secret. He turned his head to scan the room for any eavesdroppers. Which was hard because they were at a bloody club.

He leaned in close to her. "--one of those bisexuals!" He said in a harsh whisper.

He stared at her for a while, his eyes furrowed in concentration. He was debating what to say. What to say. WHAT TO SAY? Was he supposed to say it was okay? That there was nothing wrong with it? If she wanted some help and support during this confusing time?

"...who is it?" he blurted out curtly.

Leanne didn't contradict him. She'd always been attracted to both men and women, though she'd never put a label on it.

At his question, she gave a sigh and dropped her face to bury it in her hands. "Does it matter?"

How could it NOT? Wouldn't that matter a lot? A whole lot?

"She's not." It hurt every time Leanne thought about it. There was really no chance. She had to figure out how to turn her heart off.

"So, it doesn't really matter. But it's Katie." She added, then gave a quick 'thank you' to the bartender who set another drink down in front of her. She lifted her old glass and chugged the last third of it down. She gave a gentle burp, then reached for the next glass.

"Oh," A fresh reminder of the angst of unrequited love. Marcus knew that all too well, but at the very least he could entertain his possibly happening someday. Leanne couldn't. Ever.

"Well, you're hot. You could probably get any willing girl out there. I know that if I were a girl who...liked girls, I'd scissor you in an instant!" Oops. He said scissor. There goes his foot in his mouth again.

"Erm, I mean. Uh...not scis-I mean. I meant that you-I..."

Leanne turned to him, finding that the room was a bit fuzzy and off-kilter now. The alcohol was definitely taking affect. Under normal circumstances, she would have turned crimson at the compliment, but she was drunk enough now that she could hear 'you're hot' without blood rushing to her cheeks. She raised an eyebrow at the word 'scissor.'

"If you were a girl who liked girls, I'd scissor you, too." She said, playfully. "Too bad you're not."

Oh thank god she wasn't angry. He didn't know what was offensive and what wasn't.

He gave her a proud grin at her last comment. Marcus was tipsy, but he wasn't drunk. Not yet anyway. He could recognize drunk when he saw it and Leanne getting close. She was saying kooky things now, but at least she wasn't touching him yet.

"Aww, you're drunk and saying things you'd normally regret. That's cute," he put down his bottle and looked around the bar. A leggy brunette in a slim red number was hanging by the bar. "What do you think of her?" he asked.

Now he was going to play with her. Leanne didn't get it at the moment, but tomorrow--if she remembered this exchange at all--would look back and see the amusement involved.

She turned on her stool to look at the brunette witch at the end of the bar. Leanne gave a little shrug. "I prefer blondes."

Hee. This was fun. She was actually checking out girls with him.

Leanne shook her head, turning back to her drink. She nearly fell off her stool, but managed to take hold of the bar in time to save herself.

"No no no. Not ready for that." She'd never hit on a random woman in a bar. And she definitely wouldn't start when she was drunk.

He leapt out of his seat to catch her as she wobbled to stay on her stool. "Woah there," he got up and put his hands on her shoulders to keep her stable. "Looks like you aren't ready for another drink either."

Okay, so now he felt a little bad. She was drunk and alone. Marcus didn't want to see anything happen to her. "I think you're done for tonight, Crusty."

"Yeah. I should stop." Leanne said, righting herself with his help. She waved to the bartender. "Can I have a coffee, please?"

She was ready to head home soon. Sleep it off. She just knew, though, that she'd have dreams about Katie the while time. "You're so nice to keep me company, Marcus."

Coffee. How odd to order something that he himself knew how to make. And probably better too.

"No problem," It really wasn't. Not like he was getting anywhere being all alone. "You want me to take you home too?"

Well, Leanne didn't know how to make coffee. At least, she couldn't make it now... in her current condition, anyway. She'd be happy to have some, though. Coffee was always sobering for her.

"I think... maybe I'll get home okay. Or... um... ask me after my coffee." She said, giving him a rather cute, drunken grin.

"Forget the coffee," he got up and put a few sickles on the table for when the bartender came back with a mug. Ouch. There was some more money gone down the drain. He'd regret that later.

"Come on, I'm taking you home now," Marcus looped an arm around her side to guide her out of the bar.

"Oh." Leanne stood, depending on his arm a little to stay upright. She was in no position to argue, anyway. "Thank you."

She turned to him and gave him a smile. "Do you know where I live?"

All smiles and haziness. Marcus knew that feeling far too well.

"No, but I can find out," he reached into his pocket for a small address book as he supported her out of the bar. It had all of the staff's contact information in it.

The night air was refreshingly cool after being in the stuffy bar. "Ready for some side-long apparation, Crusty?"

Leanne nodded. Her eyes were closed now in her happy, drunken state. She was definitely ready.

"You know, Marcus... you'd make some girl a really smashing girlfriend." She meant something different, of course, but that's what came out. Her head rolled onto his shoulder.

"I bet you would too, Crusty." He replied. Drunk talk. Don't stoke the flames and it'll be okay.

With a pop, they landed not-so-gracefully at her front door. "You have your keys?" he asked.

A grin crossed her features when he said that. She wanted to be a good girlfriend.

Her knees buckled as they landed at the front door. and she felt a little sick. It passed quickly, though, as she pulled her keys from her pocket.

Quickly, he grabbed them. Coming inside, he set her down on a couch and found a wastebin to set next to her in case she needed it. Which she probably would.

He went to the kitchen to start on some coffee. "You okay back there?" he called.

Leanne's apartment was rather nice. It was clean, and somewhat fashionable, with little clutter. It was comfortable. She enjoyed living there.

Indeed, she needed the wastebin. She keeled over on the sofa and used the bin, then rolled onto her side and gave a little sigh.

"Yeah." She mumbled, closing her eyes.

"Good," he responded, keeping an eye on her while brewing the coffee. He looked away and groaned to himself as she vomited, though.

The coffee was ready soon after. He came over with a mug and sat next to her, holding her cup so that she wouldn't spill all over herself. "Get up. Coffee's ready."

"Mmmmph?" Leanne opened one eye to look up at him. She roused slowly, bringing both hands around to push on the sofa and force herself into a seated position.

"I'm sorry I'm so drunk." Worst part of the evening was when the drunkie started to apologize about it.

"It's fine," it really was no huge bother to him. Not like being in the bar alone was helping. At least here, he could feel good about himself for helping someone else.

"Just drink up, okay?" He gingerly guided the mug to her lips for a couple of careful sips. When he felt that she had enough, he set the mug down and got up.

"There's plenty of coffee left on the table so if you want some more, it'll be there. I'm going to head out now, Leanne. You think you'll be alright on your own?"

Leanne sipped, wrapping her hands around the mug. She let it go when he took it away. The sobering affect was instantaneous/ Then she just felt tired.

She nodded. "Yeah. 'Mfine." She laid back down on the sofa to sleep.
