Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who? Emma and Tim
When? Monday evening
Where? The tea room
What? Chance encounter - Emma is a klutz
Rating? TBD

Emma was on call on Monday night and while it was still early, she was exhausted. She'd checked on her patients, filed the charts and decided that she needed some caffeine and a little bit of sugar to keep her going. She made her way down to the tea room to get a treat, the area nearly deserted when she entered. She glanced at the clock and noted that she had some time to actually sit and enjoy a cup of tea and perhaps a cupcake before she needed to get back up to the Ward.

She carried her cup of tea in one hand and a pretty cupcake on a plate in the other. Emma's robes were maybe just a tad long, or maybe she really was just a klutz. Whatever the case, she lost her footing for a moment, just as she was walking by someone sitting at a small table and she pitched forward - luckily the hot tea stayed well-balanced, but the cupcake with the pink icing landed on the man's shoulder and bounced into his lap. "Oh! Oh, Merlin I'm so sorry!" she cried.

Marcus was an amazing cook. Tim was proud of his friend for his culinary prowess. He started poking at his cupcake, still keeping an eye out for Marcus behind the counter.

"Thank you." He gave her a smile, and then turned his eyes back up, having seen someone behind the counter. But it was just the waitress.

"A couple years. Before that I was in training." He said. "But this is a pretty recent war."

"Oh, Tim. Blenkinsop." Healer Blenkinsop on his ward. He flashed her another smile. "And you?"

Emma bit her lip when he smiled at her. She couldn't help but feel a faint blush in her cheeks. Hmm, that didn't happen often, she thought.

"Oh, I'm Emma Dobbs," she told him. "I've been working here for a year and I spent a year in training and an intership," she said. "I thought I might recognize your name from Hogwarts perhaps, but I guess I've just seen you around," she smiled.

"I was in Ravenclaw," Tim said, "man, that seems like such a long time ago." He lifted his tea for a sip, having completely forgotten it was there on the table in front of him. It'd gone cold.

"It's nice to meet you, Emma." He added, giving her a little smirk. She was very, very pretty. "Do you normally take the night shift?"

"It's nice to meet you, too," she said. Emma took a small bite of her cupcake, trying not to make a mess or bite off too much and look silly. After she'd swallowed, she continued. "I was in Slytherin, so probably how I don't know you," she admitted. Emma really only hung around with people from her house when she was at Hogwarts.

"It depends on how my patients are doing and if Madame Strout needs me to take the shift," she said. "Normally I'm not on call at night - maybe once or twice a month." Emma left out the part where she was usually there keeping her mother company.

"I think I might have been a few years ahead of you." He commented, thinking she looked a bit younger than he was. She was definitely too young for him. He took a bite of his cupcake.

"I'd hate to work night shifts." Tim said.

Emma shook her head. "I can't imagine that you were that many years behind me at Hogwarts," she smiled over at him. Sure, he looked a little older then her, but she didn't want to think that he might be too old - there was no such thing, she thought.

"It's not fun, but I guess that I still have to pay my dues," she shrugged.

"I remember what that was like." Tim put in some long hours early on in his career, too. And still did sometimes.

"How do you like working at the hospital?" He was always curious about the other people who worked at St. Mungos.

She shrugged, smiling a little as she swiped at her icing with her finger again. "I mean... it's work. I enjoy working with Madame Strout, so that's a plus," she said. "But... it's a job. I don't know if I'll ever take the time to go through healer training," she told him. "What about you? You like working here?"

Tim nodded. "It's good to get along with coworkers." He paused, and broke into a smirk. "I almost wish I'd spent more time here before I went through all the schooling and training. I might not have done it if I'd known what it was going to be like."

He lifted his tea for another sip, having forgotten that it was cold by now.

"I like it all right. It's... well, it's a job, anyway. Not the best, not the worst."

Emma was about to comment when the Caduceus pendant around her neck turned cold against her skin. She pulled it out, the pendant ice cold on her fingers. "Page... dammit," she groaned, rising from her seat.

"I'm sorry... but I'm on call and they need me upstairs," she sighed. "Thank you for the cupcake... and the company," Emma smiled sincerely.

"It's all right." Tim said, giving her a little grin. "No problem." He almost suggested that they do it again sometime. "Have a good shift."

"Thanks..." Emma hesitated, she didn't quite want to leave. "Yeah... maybe I'll see you around soon," she smiled at him.

She turned to leave, walking across the cafeteria. Just before she disappeared out the door, she turned and smiled, giving him one last little wave.

"Hopefully." Tim said, giving a smile and a nod. He watched her as she left the room, all the way until the smile and wave. He returned the wave, then turned to stare at his hand as if unsure how it raised on its own.
