Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Percy & Audrey
What: Off of work early! Surprising Audrey
Where: The home
When: Wednesday evening; 7 pm.

Percy had been in the office well past 9 for the last few days. Usually when he was in the office this late, it was because of the things he wanted to avoid at home: failure, disappointment, Audrey. Lately, it was for the complete opposite reason. He wanted to find whoever was looking through his wife's fertility records. Percy felt it was his duty as the husband to protect her. Working on this case made him feel like he was doing his job.

Yet he found himself outside the Ministry at 6:30 pm. Kingsley told him to take a load off and go home early tonight. Percy laughed it off until he realized his friendly concern was actually a command. As he walked home, he passed by a flower stand. Tulips. Audrey loved tulips.

There was music coming out his flat. Opening the door, he stood in the threshold with yellow tulips in hand and a grin coming across his face. Audrey was bobbing and dancing as she cleaned.

"Ahem," he cleared his throat after watching her for some time.

Audrey was distracting herself from everything going on by cleaning. Normally she was the messier of the two and never wanted to clean. She did though, if only to keep the house clean for Percy. When he wasn't home Audrey liked to turn the Wireless up as loud as possible and danced around as she dusted and swept.

In the middle of a very loud song, Audrey heard a small cough behind her and jumped up in the air. "Oh, Gods! Percy!" Audrey covered her face with her hand and grinned, her cheeks going pink. "You scared the hell out of me," she said.

"Well, I think your dancing might have scared off all the dust bunnies in this place," Percy closed the door behind him and walked across the room to Audrey, kissing her lightly on the cheek.

"Tulips," he raised the bouquet up to her. "Kingsley wanted me to head out early tonight."

"Home early and with flowers?" Audrey raised her eyebrows and took the gorgeous tulips from Percy. "Has the world come to an end I wasn't aware of," she teased lightly before moving towards the kitchen to find a vase. She loved Percy like this. True, she loved him no matter what, but it was always better to have a good nature husband than one who barely looked at her a week at a time.

Talking over her shoulder, Audrey arranged the flowers in the vase. "I didn't start dinner. I had no idea you'd be home."

He snorted. Percy took off his coat and hung it on a hook. "It's not a crime for me to surprise you every now and then, is it?" It was true that he was in higher spirits toward Audrey lately. A lot of it had to do with the fact that he felt like a good husband working on this case.

Walking up behind her, Percy enveloped her in his arms and perched his chin on her shoulder. "Mmm," he pondered, nibbling at her neck. "You smell good. Can I just have you for dinner?"

Closing her eyes and smiling softly, Audrey leaned back against Percy and tilted her head, giving him better access to her neck. "It's nice to know I've been wasting money on perfume and you like the smell of my soap." She wasn't going to stop him from giving her attention like this. "Or is it the cleaning product? Do I smell like pine?"

Percy bubbled forth in laughter as he brushed his lips against her soft skin. Squeezing her hips gently with his two hands, he weaved his head toward her cheek and pecked her against the edge of her mouth.

"Pine. Lemon. Clean. That's what it is. It smells clean," he grinned as he broke away from her and walked into the kitchen. "What's in the pantry? We can cook something together."

Grinning at him and slightly disappointed that he moved away, Audrey followed behind him to the pantry. "I went to the store this morning. There should be everything. Oh and I stopped by Molly's to return the dishes she had sent over last week and she gave me more biscuits. There's on the stove."

It was a miracle she got out the Burrow with only a plate of biscuits. The last time she had visited, Audrey had brought home a feast. Stepping up behind Percy and slipping a hand up under his shirt to rub his back lightly, Audrey rested her head against his shoulder. "We could order takeaway, too."

Percy scanned the pantry but was quickly distracted by the hand slipping up his shirt. He turned his head and grinned at her. "Takeaway sounds good."

Moving around him, Audrey looked up at Percy and hugged him. She loved the way she fit against him, tucked under his chin. Percy's arms were her favourite place to be.

"We can order from the sofa. That's the beauty of being lazy." Leaning to peck his lips, Audrey slipped away from her husband and walked out to the living room with a bright grin on her face. A stack of papers she had been looking at were whisked off of the coffee table and put away in her bag. Audrey plopped down on the comfortable sofa and made sure there was more than enough room for Percy as well.

Percy took one last scan of the pantry before shutting it and following his wife to the sofa. Sidling up next to her, he wrapped an arm around his Audrey before he drew his wand and accio'd the cordless over. They had a phone and knew how to use it. It was all the rage for young adults to entrench themselves with the times.

"What are you in the mood for? Chinese? Indian?"

"Chinese is fine," she said and dropped her head to his chest, draping an arm across his stomach. Audrey loved to cuddle with her husband and she was going to take advantage of every opportunity she had.

Audrey kissed his chest lightly through the thin material of his shirt and let out a long, contented sigh. The anxiety and sadness she had been feeling since speaking to Harry was slowly fading away and now with Percy here, Audrey knew it would evaporate completely.

He looked down at her and quickly nuzzled his nose into her head before dialing the familiar numbers. A few seconds later, the order was placed. Percy set the phone aside

"So what've you been doing today?" He initiated as he idly rubbed her shoulder.

"Nothing much. I'll be happy to get back to work on Monday. It's too quiet here. Though I finally found a file I had lost about a month ago. It was under the bed." Audrey was notorious for misplacing files. They always turned up sooner or later.

She didn't need to ask what he did at work. Audrey knew. Shew knew and she didn't want to talk about it. "I love you, you know," she said instead.

Percy scoffed bitterly in spite of himself. Quiet. It wouldn't be so quiet if...well. He wasn't going to go there. He simply nodded and squeezed her lightly.

He looked down and grinned at her softly. "I love you too, Audrey."

There was a pregnant pause as he stared at the Daily Prophet on the coffee table in front of him. An article about Time Turner legislation was on the front page.

Audrey's shoulders tensed up instantly at his scoff, but relaxed when he smiled at her. It was hard always wondering when they would be forced to think about what missing from their home.

Audrey's gaze followed Percy's and when she saw what he was looking at she quickly stood up from the sofa, snatched up the paper and walked into the kitchen, depositing it into the rubbish bin.

She wasn't going to think about the stranger anymore. She wanted to be happy and not scared or unsure. Walking back to the living with a bright smile on her face, Audrey sat back down. "We should go visit my parents this weekend," she said, completely changing the subject.

As she shot up with dangerous ferocity, Percy's face fell as he made a quiet sigh at leaving. He winced at the sound of the Daily Prophet's harsh landing into the rubbish bin. By throwing away that paper, she was throwing away the issue.

They hadn't talked about it yet. He knew why she was taking time off work, but hadn't outwardly acknowledged it. However, he felt like the time to talk about it was long overdue.

"Audrey, I thi--" he began as she came back, a pained grimace on his face as he attempted to start the conversation. Percy was cut off by her suggestion. He sighed again, watching her intently.

"I think that would be a great idea," he relented.

She knew Percy better than she knew anyone and Audrey was more than skilled at reading people. She had to be. She could tell Percy wanted to address the issue, but Audrey didn't know if she was strong enough to get through the conversation and the possible fallout following it.

Still, she couldn't tell him no. And she had been struggling with it herself so maybe, just maybe, talking about it would be a good thing. Just this once.

"I want to know why it was my file," she started softly. "It scared me, so much. Not because he had done anything to me, but because.. well.." She couldn't explain why the whole ordeal had frightened her. How aggravating it was to be a therapist and not be able to talk about your own feelings. "Isn't it bad enough we have to go through all of that? Did something more really needed to be added to it?"

"I--" he began with a stutter. He forgot that he wasn't the only person on the case. "We -- the Ministry -- are asking ourselves that same question." The case was tough. The guy had the last time turner in existence. How do you catch a criminal who had the ability to go back and change it all?

He put a hand on his wife's back. "The details are hard to piece together. All we know is that he came in, looked at your files, and left. We don't know if he looked at anybody else's or what his intentions were. Plus, the number of people we know so far involved in this incident are so few, we don't have any leads to go off of."

They couldn't get any intelligence anywhere. Initially, the investigators wanted to question Audrey but Percy refused, believing that Audrey wouldn't have a thing to hide. But it was nearly a week later and still, they had no leads.

"So we don't know why he's looking at me. That's comforting." Audrey's tone turned sarcastic, something which rarely happened. Her fertility issues were so hard to discuss and think about that the added stress of them being linked to a criminal in anyway had worn on her nerves.

"I'm sorry," she found herself saying. She apologised so much about this particular subject. Apologies because she couldn't get pregnant, apologies when she couldn't stay pregnant and now apologies for simply having a file someone looked at.

"I'm doing the best I can," he snapped. Her sarcastic tone only made him feel like he was failing.

Another apology. He never saw the point in those and they became so frequent that he felt they had lost meaning. "Audrey, don't." The frustration was apparent on his face.

He got up and went into the kitchen. His mood was soured now.

Pursing her lips when he snapped at her, Audrey knew this had been a bad idea. She didn't say anything when Percy went into the other room. When did she ever? Audrey knew it wasn't healthy and she knew it was only going to make things worse in the long run. But, dammit, she couldn't stand fighting with him.

The buzzer rang and Audrey sighed. The food. Getting off the sofa, Audrey summoned her wallet and pulled out the money. She smiled at the delivery man and took the food into the kitchen. Not looking at Percy, Audrey began to set the food out. "You should eat something. You had a long day."

He washed his hands at the sink. He dried his hands slowly with a dish towel. He wanted to prolong going back into the room. Thank god for the delivery man.

Percy entered the living room again. "I'm going to take a shower first," he mumbled, passing her without a look.

Lovely. Walking away from her felt all too familiar. Audrey frowned and considered letting him avoid her, but in the end she couldn't ignore this. "No," she said softly. "Then we will never talk about this and I'll lose you for another few days."

Audrey walked close to Percy until he couldn't ignore her. "If you are going to take a shower I'm coming with because we are not doing this again."

He couldn't walk with Audrey in front of him now. He exhaled and tried to avert his gaze from her, shaking his head. The conversation was a bad idea. It didn't go the way he wanted it to. This was why they didn't acknowledge it. Percy regretted ever bringing it up.

"Can I just please just take a shower." He stated sternly, the tone empty in his voice. His emotion was apparent on his face as he rolled his eyes and huffed.

"Fine." Audrey moved out of his way and turned her back so she didn't have to see him leave. She didn't want to watch him leave again. Audrey went around the kitchen, acting like she was straightening up even though there was nothing left to clean.

"It means a lot to me," she said without looking back at him, "that you are trying to find him. I hope you know that."

He sighed again, rubbing his face with his palm as she moved aside. Percy's eyes followed her as she moved into the kitchen. He didn't reply to her last statement.

Shaking his head, he stalked into the bedroom and picked out some fresh clothes, leaving his tie and shoes haphazardly onto the floor. He was in one of his funks again. Organization was the last thing on his mind.

How many times did they have to go through this? Everytime Percy ignored her and fell into one of his fits, Audrey was at a loss. There was nothing to do but wait for it to pass. Wait and hope that it didn't last that long.

But, Merlin, she hated this. She hated not being able to give her husband what he wanted. And she hated that her failure resulted in being alone until he decided to stop hating her. A

Audrey went into the living room, not brave enough to try confronting him again. She sat on the sofa and fought the urge to walk out of the house out of spite.
