Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Leanne and Katie
When: Tonight, after work
Where: Elevator
What: Awkward ride

Leanne had been arriving late or staying late or arriving early or staying early... she'd been avoiding Katie, to be honest. She wasn't ready to see her friend (ex-friend?) yet, so she'd been avoiding the times she knew Katie would arrive and leave.

Until today.

Leanne forgot, simply forgot, and headed to the elevator to go to the lobby to apparate home. She was tired, and wanted to go drink herself to sleep.

She wasn't expecting the elevator to make another stop.

"Right." Leanne finally glanced over at Katie. She felt a pang in her chest, and turned her eyes to the floor.

C'mon, elevator, arrive already.

Katie opened her mouth to add something, but then the door opened. Not her floor, didn't matter. A third person!

Leanne took a step back to admit the other person.

"Going up?" He asked.

Leanne shook her head. They were going down.

"Oh, I'm sorry." He stepped back out.

Leanne almost wanted to call him back, say she was lying, just to have someone else in the elevator with them.

Damn him. Katie was calling him a number of vulgar things in her head. None of them fair, but she was desperate. Katie pretended to dig through her purse for something now. She hadn't decided what she'd pretend it was.

Leanne glanced at Katie again, then reached forward and hit the button a dozen times or so, as if that'd make the lift move faster.

"Kevin Entwhistle got married," there was some more shallow conversation. "Remember Lavender Brown?"

"From your house?" Leanne vaguely remembered. She was dating one of Katie's teammates way back in the day. Ron Weasley. Who became famous later for being Harry Potter's best friend.

"Yeah. Apparently they eloped. Nobody could even confirm they were dating." Katie remembered her as pretty girly and enthusiastic. "All in the papers and her journal this morning."

"Oh." Leanne used her paper as a coaster this morning, and her journal was at home. Unopened.

"Good for them." She said, trying not to think too much about people being happy and in love.

"Oh," she said when the elevator dinged. "This is me." Thank God. She had to stop to file some papers before going home, she wouldn't have to walk out front awkwardly with Leanne.

"Right. Bye." Leanne said, turning to the wall to let Katie pass without looking at her.

Well, that was awkward.
