Lavender arrived at the Ministry of Magic about ten minutes before nine on Monday morning. She was wearing a set of sapphire blue robes, her hair pulled up in a french twist. Going to the Ministry was the only time, outside of work, that Lavender wore robes. She rode the elevator to the designated floor and stepped off, looking about for Harry, whom she thought would be easy to find as she walked into the Auror department - she had an appointment after all.

"I'm sure you can do a test if you really want to know... but either way, this is what we know: Your mum was at his house the night before she fell ill and she had a glass of wine. He drank brandy, so he didn't get poisoned. He fetched us the bottle, it was contaminated. We're pretty sure he was the target. Someone got into his house and poisoned it, someone who also got into Fischer's house. He was likely a target because during the war he was forced to prosecute muggle-borns. They threatened his family, so he played along in their 'theft of magic' charges."

She felt like the room was crushing in around her. She couldn't think past the idea that this man that her mother - her mother - had had an affair with could be her father. What if her father - Geoffrey Brown, that is - knew? What if he knew that he wasn't her biological father? Her stomach churned a little. She was going to be sick.

"Oh, my god... so this really was an accident, then," she deduced. "Well, in my mother's case anyway. Why is claiming to be my father? Does he know something? Was there a test done when I was born?"

	"Yeah... water would be good," she nodded, picking up the picture again. Lavender studied the picture of the man with her mother. She traced his features then reached up and touched her nose, feeling tears in her eyes. "What do I do now?" she asked rethorically. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Harry had once heard a story about a woman who had slipped and hit her head on a toilet in the bathroom of a hotel while she was having an affair and died. This was kind of like that, only it wasn't entirely an accident.

When Harry had read that article, he remembered thinking "bitch deserved it", but this was someone's Mum, someone he knew. He couldn't say that to Lavender. He just couldn't imagine what he'd do if twenty-something years down the road he found out that Ginny had been carrying on with someone else. Harry at least had faith that Ginny was too much of a spunky personality not to just leave Harry if she got sick of him.

Harry scowled.

"Are you gonna tell your Dad?" Harry wasn't sure how much he was required to tell Mr. Brown.

	Lavender swallowed her water hard. "The question should be - how much does he already know?" she sighed, her eyes drifting toward the pictures again. "Well, I can't take my brothers, they would murder him on the spot," she pointed out, "and if my dad doesn't know then I would rather find out the facts before I tell him. And then there's Kevin..." she paused and pondered that with a laugh, "Rockstar's girlfriend is an illigitmate daughter, fabulous," she smirked. "This is just a bad idea all around... maybe it's best to just be in the dark..."

	She closed the folder, tapping her fingers on it for a moment. "Thank you... for sticking with this... for telling me the truth," she said sincerely as she rose to her feet.
