A slow clap - odd touch, but he let it slide by.
"True enough," he said, and his gaze sharpened for a moment before subsiding. "Sometimes we have no other choice." He gave her a quick bow, ironically executed but not harshly met. "It's been lovely talking to you," he said. "I'll let you find someone a little better at twirling your skirts around. There are more enjoyable conversation partners here than me, tonight."
He moved into the crowd on the dance floor and disappeared. Before he did, he seemed the slow, and his lips moved, as if he was talking to himself. Then he was gone.
