He met her kiss, parting his lips to gently nip hers. He could taste the wine on her lips, flavoring their kiss. Lifting his hands, he brushed his fingers over the smooth skin of her cheek. Gently, her turned her face so he could kiss her more deeply, with more fervor. But there was something wrong, something not quite right. Slowly, he pulled away from her, trying to linger. "Forgive me, dove," he whispered against her lips, "but I've got to go."
With a befuddled expression, he drew away from her. He stood, gazing at her, clearly confused. For a moment, he thought he might sit down again, laughing, and apologize for everything. But he couldn't. Blowing her a kiss, he stepped away from the beautiful lady and dissolved into the crowd.
