Mood brightening, she sat a bit straighter in her chair, no longer hunched over. She leaned toward him, propping her elbows on the arm of her chair. "I was going for fairy-y, too," she told him, her tone chipper, like a bright splash of color. A smile reappeared on her lips, and she realized that what had happened earlier didn't matter anymore because she was with someone else now, and she was happy. Warm, bubbly, and happy.
"Much better, now," she told him. Feeling no need to censor herself, she continued. "I met someone very mean." Setting aside her now empty glass, she reached for another one, polishing off the finger's width of champagne remaining. Then she grabbed another abandoned glass, this one much fuller than the last. She didn't take time to savor it, she tossed it back all at once. "Mmm, these drinks are really good. Have you tried one?" She held the red glass out to him.
