" I don't think it was for a really good reason." She turned to her companion. " I'm not usually all that down with parties, hmm? I don't really belong at them." It was true, but the haze over who she was hiding from still remained. She couldn't place names or faces at all tonight.
The waiter came once more, and after plucking a piece of Halloween bark from the tray, the doll crunched on it as she thought. " I think I wanted to come, because I wanted to belong. If that makes sense." There was nothing self-conscious about how she said it, it was a genuine thought and not one she felt was too difficult to say. " The people around me are better at this than me. I wish I was better at it, I guess." She shrugged, smiling openly at last. " Why did you come?" She finally found a position she was comfortable in.
