Who: Jennifer Warda, Jackie Poole, & Nathan Collins
What: Having lunch after Nathan's big interview
Where: Somewhere near Centro
When: 11-12ish, Wedseday; the day after the Joker's bank heist
Warnings: Over protective pseudo-mother interrogation, JP denseness, and two years of disappearing elephants in the room
There was a thick silence that permeated the car as Nathan and Detective Warda made their way to the restaurant to meet Jackie. Nathan thought the interview had gone well enough, but really he could have probably shown up in a tutu and fairy wings and still gotten the job. The Seattle PD seemed desperate for new officers, especially those with experience in the wake of the spiking crime and wave of vigilantism. Yesterday's bank heist was just one in a long line of examples.
When Nathan had decided to cross over into Humanity he had never imagined that the Creations would be having such an effect on the place. It seemed to him as if they were all bringing chaos along, and he wondered if he'd end up adding to it somehow. He had heard rumors of course of what happened to Creations in Humanity but he honestly hadn't put much stock in them. Nathan didn't really believe in all that nonsense (and it frustrated Jackie to no end, a rather amusing side effect Nathan thought) and almost still couldn't believe it. He wondered if he'd develop an ability too, or if he already had without knowing it. Maybe he'd end up powerless, he thought sardonically, because he was so skeptical about it all. Then again the powers people developed didn't seem to have too much to do with their personality: Jackie was a prime example of that.
Nathan wondered if he should try to start a conversation with Detective Warda. She had done him a huge favor setting up the interview for him like this, and he owed her for it. If there was one thing Nathan never forgot it was when someone helped him. Still if Nathan was honest with himself he found the Detective rather intimidating. Since the moment they'd met it had seemed to him as if she was sizing him up. Maybe he was just being paranoid, or still had to get used to being around people again. Living as a hermit for two years probably hadn't done much for his social skills Nathan couldn't really explain it but he almost felt like he was taking a test; one he had completely forgotten to study for and possibly even slept through the class.
