Who: Nathan and JP
What: Bothering old friends at work.
Where: Starbucks
When: midday
Wandering into the half full coffee shop (it was that strange almost lull time when all the caffeine addicted teens were trapped in their high schools, the mad prework rush was trickling to a halt, and the lunch refresher just beginning.) Nathan made his way to the counter, standing a bit off to the side and letting the rest order their coffee. Most would assume he was figuring out what to order but really he was watching the gir-woman taking the orders. Jakie was standing behind the counter, and seemed distracted in between taking long complicated orders that sounded to Nathan less like coffee and more like a random mass of words. It was the first time Nathan had seen her in two years and he almost couldn't believe it was real. Even though he'd talked to her online, there had been this almost disconnect. Even though he'd know it was Jackie behind those comments, behind that computer screen it hadn't felt real.
She hadn't felt real.
And now here she was in the flesh, her hair was a little different and she was a little taller, but she still looked like his Jackie. It was like he had traveled back in time, back to when life had been so good, and everything had been right, and Bobby-- Nathan shut down that line of thought before it could go any further. Now wasn't the time for those kind of thoughts. Nathan stood there for a moment just trying to take in the sight of her. He waited until there was a pause in people, a short moment when no one was ordering to slide in and ask "So you people still selling coffee or is it all half soy caramel latte maple pumpkin crap now?"
