The snap back to consciousness always left Mere feeling disoriented. It was like one of those dreams where you felt like you were falling and when you woke up it felt as if you had just fallen back into yourself. Dropping the frightened Doctor Mere stumbled slightly, legs feeling weak. He'd never been pulled back quite like that before, the effects of Chemical X being the closest he could come to describing it. Usually the fog around his mind would slowly clear enough to give him back control, or one of his sisters' voices would break through. That felt as if the rage had just been pulled out of him, against his own will even.
With the anger gone Mere was left with nothing but the same hollow feeling from before. His breathing was slightly ragged, as if he'd just run, and with the adrenaline gone so quickly his legs collapsed beneath him.
Looking up at the woman who'd just commanded him to stop, the one holding Poppy, he said nothing, not even truly registering her presence. His sister was gone. Hazel, sweet, moronic, wonderful, loving Hazel was gone. He'd failed her, he was suppose to protect her. That was his job, that had always been his job. He distantly registered that Bunny was hugging him, but somehow it didn't seem to matter. Nothing did.
