[Op-Ed]
[Letter to the Editor]
Op-Ed: Letter to the Editor Who gives the Masks a right to circumvent the law? Each time they truss someone up or break into a building without a warning to stop a crime, they're taking away our civil liberties. You might say they're helping, but destroying due process is not helping. The police follow the rules they do for a reason. Those rules have been established to ensure fairness and freedom from prosecution. The Masks operate on revenge. They are biased, and they are not monitored or regulated. If they want to help, let them do so through legal channels. I do not condone what Mr. Eels did, but I understand why he did it. The Batman implying Eels' son is guilty removes all chance of a fair trial. We live in a country where men and women are innocent until proven guilty, and the media furor surrounding the Masks removes that guarantee of innocence. Mr. Eels' action is a warning that the Masks should take very seriously. If a troubled man will shoot an innocent man in Starbucks with no association to the Masks, imagine what more sinister men would do to the people the Masks hold dear. The Masks have been warned, and they would do well to heed the warning before it's too late. |
