For months, Rae had been struggling to keep her feelings about Stiles to herself; to conquer them before they conquered her. While she had never felt about anyone else before the way that Stiles made her feel, he had his Malia back home, she’d known that all along. She’d known right from the beginning that she could not have him and she had tried to keep her composure and simply be his friend, as he was her best one and it his happiness mattered to her more than her own did. So when Stiles had said that she made him happy, at first she had not realized the gravity of what he had been saying. Once she had come straight out and asked him and he had responded in her favor, it felt like a giant weight lifted off of her chest and Rae wanted — no, needed — nothing more than to see him right then. At the conclusion of their text conversation, now she found herself in front of his door, knocking timidly at it so as not to wake his other self, and trying to ignore the tumbling of nerves in her stomach while she waited for him to answer the door. Stiles wasn’t sure if he should be doing what he was doing, he wasn’t sure while it was happening and he wasn’t sure now, as he paced back and forth in front of the door chewing on the corner of his finger. Things back home with Malia had been… rocky. At best. And if Stiles was being honest with him which his other self was more than happy to be, they were on the verge of falling apart before he got dragged away to The City. But it hadn’t been finalized, they didn’t make that choice together in the end, and because of that he had held off. He had held off as long as he possibly could. But Stiles didn’t get opportunities like this, he knew all too well what it was like to have feelings for someone who didn’t have feelings for him in return, so when Rae had made her admission to him, one that he felt guilty for secretly hoping for, he gave in. He caved, and now she was coming over and he had no idea what to do. A stronger man would have told her that they should hold off, wait until the morning and talk about this logically over coffee or something, but Stiles wasn’t a stronger man. He liked her, and maybe he shouldn’t like her, or maybe he should and he was just being unfair to himself, but either way he was here and he couldn’t convince himself to text her and call the whole thing off. He heard the tentative knock and he turned immediately, pulling the door open after the second one, and when he saw her standing there he found himself staring with wide eyes and mouth agape, lost for words. He blinked once. “Hey.” After silently chastising himself he shut the door behind him, stepping outside on the front porch of the ground floor apartment. “He’s uh… he’s sleeping.” Or just hiding in his room and waiting for Stiles to text him all the details, which was more likely, but he doubted that Rae would want to hear that. He moved to step closer to her before stopping himself, unsure of whether there was still a level of personal space he needed to respect. “...Can I kiss you now? Because it would be totally cool if I could do that.” The fluttering in her stomach felt like it increased tenfold when Stiles opened the door and Rae sucked in a breath as he stared back at her, seemingly just as much at a loss for how to react to the change in the atmosphere between them as she was. “Oh, of course,” she replied with a nod, stepping back to give him space to join her outside. Stiles stepped closer and Rae didn’t realize that she’d started holding her breath, waiting and she wasn’t even sure what she was waiting for until Stiles spoke again. Instead of answering him verbally, Rae’s expression broke out into a smile and she closed the gap between them that he had stopped himself from completing. She looked up at him and only let herself hesitate for a moment before she moved a hand to the side of his face, guiding him down to her to do just that. She wouldn’t tell Stiles, or anyone, but Rae hadn’t spent much time with other Asgardians her own age; she certainly hadn’t kissed any of them. So her attempt was tentative and almost reluctant in its uncertainty, but it was there and Stiles had had other girlfriends; Rae thought he could take the lead on that and maybe her lack of experience would be easier to hide that way. His eyes widened when Rae slowly moved in, and he stared down at her with a whispered “oh man,” before she leaned in and filled the space between them. Stiles had kissed girls before, kissing he could do, so this part he was at least a little confident about, and he let his hands take their place on her waist to tug her a bit closer. Stiles had no idea how experienced Rae was; he never really thought about it. In fact, he had gone quite far out of his way not to think about it after he had the conversation about sex toys with her, something that he still didn’t let himself think about because no thank you, body, calm down, do not fuck this up. He took his time leading her, a hand moving to the side of her face after a few moments, and when he parted he did so just barely in order to rest his forehead against hers and allow a grin to stretch across his face. “So that’s a yes, right? Like, I can totally do this now?” He leaned in once more before she could respond to continue, parting only when he felt like they should really trying to talk a little before he spent the whole night making out with her in front of his apartment. “I felt kind of bad for not telling you, I just didn’t know if - you know.” He gave a half shrug, staring down at her and speaking softly with no indication that he was going to release his hold on her. “...To be honest I might kind of call off the rest of our training sessions. I’m super into spending time with you but if I start telling people that my girlfriend kicks my ass every time we hang out it probably won’ make me look very good. Wait, is that cool?” He pulled back a little, face flushed when he realized the terminology he used. “Because if that’s not cool I totally get it.” Stiles didn’t really give Rae a chance to answer his question before kissing her again, but she did manage to get in a hum of agreement. When he parted again, she laced her fingers together at the back of his neck and shook her head a little. “Do not feel bad, I already feel bad enough about that for the both of us,” she told him, her cheeks warming slightly with the repetition of her confession. She opened her mouth to protest his decision to end their training, because she had thought he was doing so well, but she stopped herself when he continued and caught her bottom lip between her teeth, nodding. “Yes,” she agreed with another nod. “And, to answer your first question...it’s less that you can do it and more that you should,” she told him, letting her voice level out with feigned seriousness as she looked back at him with an expression to go with it, which melted too soon into another smile. “But I do think that we should continue to train. Perhaps not as often, so as to allow your bruised ego time to heal between sessions, but you really have been progressing, whether you see it or not and I would hate to interrupt your momentum, Stiles.” Stiles wrinkled his nose in distaste when she insisted that they should continue his training, because really, he was literally allowing himself to get his ass kicked all the time just so he could hang out with a hot girl. But now that hot girl was into him, and she was pretty much going to be his girlfriend and Stiles had a really hard time saying no to hot girls who agree to be his girlfriend. “Alright, fine. I mean, we can keep training. If I don’t find something else to distract you with, you know.” He flashes a sheepish little smile, his grip around her tightening once more before he looked over his shoulder. They probably had a lot to talk about, and doing it all on the front porch seemed a little inappropriate, so he reached back and slowly opened the door before moving his other arm from her waist to, instead, take her hand. “Come on.” He led her inside, already hating himself for not having cleaned up a little before she arrived, and he glanced down the hall to make sure that his double’s bedroom door was shut before turning and leading her into the living room to sit with him on the couch. “Have you done this before?” He asked after she joined him, and he followed it up quickly with, “I just know you said there weren’t a lot of people around your age back home, is all.” He shifted on the couch to face her, wetting his lips nervously before pressing on hesitantly. “I just - I’ve never done this with someone who isn’t from around here, I don’t want to screw it up before I even get the chance to prove that I’m not a total dork. And stuff.” Rae’s face colored and warmed at the suggestion that he could find something else to distract her in order to get out of his training. She would not actually make him continue it if it was not something that he wished to pursue, of course, she simply thought he owed it to himself to finish what he had started and she wanted to afford him that opportunity. Giving his hand a squeeze, she followed him inside and was careful to keep quiet to avoid disturbing his roommate. For the first time, when Rae settled on his couch, it felt different and she supposed that was because she knew that the conversation they were going to have would be the first one they had as, she supposed, a couple. “No, and it is all right. I do not mind the question. But no, I have not. I seldom had time for such connections back on Asgard. It is a pleasant deviation, if I am entirely honest.” She shifted closer to him when he turned to face her and a small smile crept over her lips as she shook her head. Rae lifted her hands to hold Stiles’s face in them both. “I like that you are a total dork,” she pointed out. “That is my favorite part.” With that, the smile turned into a smirk and she pressed her lips to his again chastely. It probably made him a bit of a jerk but Stiles felt a small wave of relief when Rae said that she had pretty much no experience when it came to situations such as this. Maybe that meant that he wouldn’t screw up so fantastically that she would never want to speak to him again. He felt his face flush a little when she had shifted closer to him and and he didn’t move when she took his face in her hands, leaning in to give him a brief kiss. He was grinning when she pulled back, the small gesture of affection only solidifying the fact that this was actually happening. “Yeah? That’s good then, because I was biting off more than I could chew there, I’m totally a dork, I had no idea how I was going to go through with that, that’s a relief.” He shifted back so that he was tucked between the back of the couch and the arm, and he reached out for her to follow before guiding her to lean into him. He had forgotten how much he enjoyed this part, just having someone around to hold, and he tilted his head to rest his cheek again the top of her crown before finally speaking again. “I guess this means that I should take you out on like, a real date tomorrow or something. If you’re into that, we can just hang out here for all I care. But maybe we can explore the city together or something.” He idly began to run his fingers through her hair, if only because he always wanted to and now he could. They weren’t talking about the obvious, the ‘what if we get sent back home’, because they had obviously both actively decided to act despite of the possibility. He didn’t want to think about it. Not right now. “...None of the Avengers are going to like, kill me for being with you, right?” He thought that he was safe if Thor wasn’t here, but who knew. He heard there were already a couple of guys around this place who had gotten struck by lightning. “Because it wouldn’t matter to me but I should probably be prepared.” To bleed. Most likely. To his response, Rae could not help but to laugh. It was the silliness that came with Stiles to which she was drawn — so stark a contrast from what she knew at home; from which she had been surrounded before having met him. The frivolity of spending time with Stiles was the part about him that she adored most of all. She followed his lead and leaned against him, her head on his shoulder and her eyes closing as a contented smile crept over her lips at the sensation of his fingers moving through her hair. “You do not have to change a thing, Stiles,” she told him softly, shaking her head against his shoulder. “Well...you should kiss me more often, now, but you should not change anything else,” she clarified with a smirk. “If you wish to take me out, I would be happy to go, but do not feel obligated to change anything about the way in which we spend our time. I like how we spend our time...I just like being with you. I do not care what we are doing when we are together, so long as we are together,” she finished, tilting her head to look up at him. A soft laugh escaped her at his question and once again, Rae shook her head. “No one will kill you,” she promised. “I would like to see them try their luck against the daughter of Thor. I am a child to them, but I am no normal child. ...you will, however, be on their radar. If you do not hurt me, they will leave you alone. And if you do, then I will hide it. You will be safe, Stiles, do not worry about the Avengers.” “Oh I can definitely kiss you more often, you don’t have to tell me to. Believe me. I’m totally all for that.” Stiles couldn’t help but respond with a grin, the arm around her tightening a little to pull her close so he could dip his head and press a tender kiss against her forehead, as if making a point. “And I’m definitely going to take you out, come on, I’m not trying to be like, the worst boyfriend in the world, I’m not going to make you sit and play video games with me all the time. ...Just most of the time.” He resumed running his fingers through her hair, staring down at her with content and disbelief both in his eyes and expression. “I can’t believe that you’re even here, you’re way out of my league, you know that right? Like, way out of my league. And it’s alright, I’ll take my chances with the Avengers, I have the daughter of one beat me up on practically a regular basis, so…” he grinned, “and I wouldn’t hurt you, Rae. If I thought there was even a chance of that I wouldn’t even be here, you know? I wouldn’t do that.” He relaxed into the couch once more. “But for the record if you ever needed to protect me from the Avengers I’m totally putting my money on you. And I’m definitely not saying that because I like you.” He had originally suggested that they play video games, and now Stiles had absolutely no desire to. Instead he moved to look down at her, trying to see her face. “Do you want to watch a movie?” He trailed off for a second. “I mean like, do you wanna put a movie on and make out?” “So long as you promise you will not turn ‘taking me out’ into trying to impress me when you need not, because you already have, then I can agree to that,” she replied and looked, for a flash, confused by his phrasing as he went on. Her nose wrinkled and she looked up at him, shaking her head. “I do not know what you mean by ‘out of your league,’ but I sense that it is a put down toward yourself and I wish that you would not do that. I do not like it when people make fun of the people I care about and I very much care about you. I am here because I want to be nowhere else right now.” Once Stiles relaxed back against the couch, Rae relaxed against him again. “I worry that you are not joking, sometimes, when you say that I am rough on you in training, but I worry more that if I was not, then I would be insulting your progress and you, yourself,” she pointed out. He caught her attention again, getting her to look back up at him and she tilted her head just slightly, eyes narrowed in thought. “Is that Midgardian words for kissing, then? Because yes, if so, I would like to put on a movie,” she replied with a grin. “Well yeah but… I thought I was supposed to try to impress you. It couldn’t have been that easy, really?” He sounded genuinely surprised but he didn’t argue when she looked up at him, shrugging apologetically when she scolded him for putting himself down. It was true though, she was way out of his league, even if she didn’t see it. But he wouldn’t try to force her to, he was honest but he wasn’t stupid. He felt her relax into him, and he shifted beside her in thought when she commented on their training exercises. “Well they hurt. I mean, they hurt a lot, and I don’t see any improvement. ...But I actually really do like training with you, and if you think that it’s working for me then I’ll keep doing it. You’re better at seeing that stuff than I am.” The way her eyes narrowed pulled a laugh from him, and he gave a little smirk of his own before moving beneath her to reach out and grab the remote for the game system. “I’ll put something on Netflix for us. And then yeah, we’re definitely going to do some Midgardian kissing.” |
