September 8, 1976 - In the Library
Who: Lily, James
Where: Library
When: after classes
Rating: PG
Status: Closed, completed
Summary: Lily's in the library, working on her transfiguration homework when she's interrupted joined by James Potter. James offers help with her homework, which she declines. When he inquires about her day, she starts to go on about her imaginary wedding to Fabian, though James 'talks her out of it' by pointing out Fabian and Gideon lied about there not being an application process for husbands. There is a bit of further teasing as Lily invites James to wait for her in a certain chair in the commons so she'll snog him later - though she has no intent of doing so and is certain he knows that.
It wasn't that she didn't understand the theory - it was that she couldn't make it work for her. She understood the principle, but she had such trouble getting the correct feeling behind it.
Often, she had trouble wanting kittens to turn into tea kettles. And hers never changed properly. Ever. She'd gotten very close a few times, and she did always manage to pass the exams - though just barely, in some cases - and she was trying.
She heard a rumor they were turning puppies into footstools later.
Studying the open Theory of Transfiguration text before her, Lily sighed quietly. Puppies. Into footstools. It was going to be a long year.
