"A werewolf," Eric repeated. "On the three nights of the full moon he changes from human form into the wolf that you saw last night."
He met her skeptical look with a very serious one of his own. "I could have," he insisted. "I was still me, sort of, but my thinking was more animal than human. You smelled like food, and it took every last bit of willpower that I had to turn and run away from you. You were afraid of me, and that only made me want to hurt you more. Your fear made you smell like prey." He looked away from Vala. "You were never afraid of me before last night, though I can hardly blame you for that," he murmured quietly.
