Lucy had tensed automatically when Vala had forced the dial back to zero, expecting a tingle, or a wrench, or something that would feel like being wrenched back to her own body. However, nothing happened, and after a few seconds she moved again, thinking. She tried to remember what Jeff had told her once - complained, actually, about spaceship simulators and the tricks that the test crews pulled on the pilots.
"I'm still Lucy, so - are you still Vala?" She frowned. "It's possible that the dial was just an indicator, not a control mechanism. It's like . . . putting a weight on a set of scales and then zeroing it. It weighs the same, but the scales are still reading zero. So the countdown could still be going on."
