Well, that confirmed his suspicions, at least. This was definitely Vala, not Sam.
He couldn't tell if Vala knew who he was and was simply trying to get him riled up, or if she truly thought that he was Alcide. He suspected the former, but just to be sure, he closed the distance between them and slipped an arm around Sam's waist. It felt odd because it was someone new, but not uncomfortably so. Not so different from holding Bastian, really. Eric was used to having to look down a bit to meet Vala's eyes, but Sam and Alcide were the same height, which meant that he kept his gaze level to meet hers.
"Not Alcide," he murmured in the werewolf's deeper, more gravelly voice. "Guess again."
