Tobias did feel guilty but with Pam stressing it, he also felt minor slivers of annoyance seep into his mood. She wanted to take charge a lot and that was fine but she wasn't the boss and he wasn't going to be volunteered for something he didn't want to do. Maybe it was just the lack of a deep sleep, along with fear and uncertainty that was making him feel disconnected and grouchy, but it was what it was. Once he got back to the house, he could make sure Chase and Kiley were okay and then maybe they could go out on their own to help someone, if they needed it. For all they knew some of those people were already heading back to the house. A few of them seemed perfectly capable of taking care of themselves without needing a rescue party.
"We'll be careful," Tobias promised Lennon. It was probably easier just to pretend Pam hadn't spoken at all. "You be careful too." He glanced at Pam before flashing Lennon a small, grateful smile.
