It was impossible to tell if the thing in front of the group understood that more opponents were spewing from the house. It remained still, partially obscured by darkness, still hiding some of it's nightmarish form. Even the screaming from further in the woods had stopped momentarily, hopefully not because another thing was on it's way, though it was still too far to tell.
When it moved again, it was slow at first, pacing either way at the edge of the trees, almost as if it was waiting for the others to come out from the house and find their nerve. When it stopped again, it dug it's long, bony claws into the dirt around it, throwing it up into the air as if it could create a dust cloud to hide it further.
Then, as if propelled forward by it's raking claws, the thing lurched forward, rushing closer to the group, and towards the light. The knotted and gnarled vines that covered it's flesh were suddenly visible, and in a few more steps so was it's long, matted hair that just didn't cover the too-wide mouth on it's otherwise featureless face. Not at the angle that it's long neck had twisted, anyway.
Another few steps and the thing darted to the side suddenly, sizing up the perimeter of the group's safe zone. It paced again, then took a few steps back, returning to the shadows, but not enough to hide the secondary set of legs, limp only a moment ago, as they twitched to life, and a split formed in that bloated torso, another scream rumbling out from inside of it as the smaller, second creature that it carried began to untangle itself from the knotted form.
