Who: Felix [Narrative] Where: Heading towards K27 When: Late Morning
Felix wasn't really feeling particularly thrilled about a second day trekking through the woods, but he couldn't really deny the intrigue of there being something out there to actually find. He decided to keep it simple, backtracking the way he and Kate had wandered the day before, despite the fact that it meant he'd need to cross the river again. He walked a little further towards the barrier than where he and Kate had crossed, stripped, then spent the better part of an hour and a half dragging a few sturdy fallen trees out to the bank to make the world's shittiest bridge with them. Cold and a little annoyed at himself for bothering when the thing could just as easily disappear or get washed away by the time he was on his way back, or if he wanted to use it again, he found that as long as he didn't put all of his weight onto one single trunk it did little more than dip into the water in the center as he crossed. It soaked his feet, but at least it would be faster than getting naked and trudging across while fighting the current. A few more trees and it might not even dip anymore, but he wasn't feeling that motivated to continue. Maybe tomorrow.
After dressing on the other side of the river, he continued his trek to where he'd first started, fighting the urge to start a round of music on his phone in case it might give away his position. It wasn't terribly imperative that he not be noticed or followed, but if he found something good he at least wanted the option to keep it from everyone else if needed.
The stump was pretty obvious, all things considered. After walking for about an hour from the riverbank, Felix had to stop and wonder if he'd somehow missed the thing the day before, or if someone had cut it down overnight just for this treasure hunt. He'd be more surprised by the former than the latter, considering the rest of the area looked at least somewhat familiar, but it wasn't really all that important either way. As he trudged closer, it was pretty obvious that someone had cut it down, instead of it falling over naturally like so many of the other trees around him. It came up to an odd height at his waist, but he realized it was the glint of a hinge in the filtering daylight that had really caught his attention. He fingered at it, then traced the edge of an additional cut around the top, realizing it formed a lid and lifting it.
Seeds.
Lots of seeds.
Well, that was definitely something.
He lifted the first packet, frowning thoughtfully to himself as he contemplated what he might actually do with them. The limited food supply was interesting, and could lead to some fun antics on its own, so maybe adding these to the equation could damper that a bit. On the other hand, he could hoard food well enough, but the prospect of being saddled with the same shit on that list people had come up with for who-knew-how-long didn't sound great. Besides, it would probably take a while for any shit to actually grow, and someone would have to figure out how to get that started in the first place....
"Ah, fuck it," he sighed to himself, starting to shove the packets into the front pocket his nearly empty backpack. He'd go a little further to see if there was anything else, then head back. Maybe by the time he was back at the mill he'd have figured out what he was going to do.
