You are making valid points, but I unfortunately can't agree to all of them. I definitely agree that having foods that we can eat cooked or not cooked would be a smart consideration, and it's maybe worth replacing a couple things on Jack's list just in case we need to adjust to a situation without a usable kitchen, but we should definitely stick with some of the base ingredients. With most of them, I advise.
There are quite a few options flour, milk, eggs, rice, salt, potatoes, and sugar/honey offer, and in my opinion, those things are essential. The benefit of making the things from scratch is that we have options of variety this way. Not too much, admittedly, but at least a little. They can serve to make basic things like bread or pasta, they can be made into basic desserts and backery products, and if we go with some kind of fruit as I suggested earlier, there is the potential of eating them raw, making jelly, or juice.
I really do believe that we don't need to worry about water. I can't imagine water won't be part of the things They deem "essential". Providing us with toiletries and lodging, but not water, doesn't seem very likely. But it is indeed a consideration to be made.
Anyway, in a nutshell, I agree that some food items that are consumable right away without the need of cooking are a good idea. I disagree that switching out basis ingredients with finished items will offer more variety.
