Do you have any precedent of them presenting you with options? I don't know things well enough yet to make an educated guess, but maybe the assumption that the actual meanings of the cards are moot is right. In the end, it is possible that the actual event that they have planned for tomorrow was set from the beginning, and that the references to the actual cards are so vague that you can choose any of them and it still is a fit, because we interpret it that way. Very much like horoscopes work.
The way they told us to contemplate if we would blame those three women for the choice they made seems fitting in that context. Like a psychological experiment in which the end result is set from the beginning, but our perception differs based on things that never played a role after all.
