Multiple Pups, all in the Gardens, late afternoon, All OTA/MW
Emma had put the phone down after a long chat with Ang, and yes, Alec too, even Gavin had gurgled at her, and finished her cup of tea, then fetched up both dogs, and headed for the gardens. They needed a longer walk tomorrow and she was thinking of taking them out for a long hike, but for now the gardens and a dozen or so laps, along with assorted fetch and tug of war games would have to do. So for a while she was settled on the lawns, throwing tennis balls in various directions and laughing as Faith and Lily raced each other to bring them back.

Spencer was hiding out in the Gazebo, he was fairly sure his mother was likely to call, so had left his cell upstairs, and instead bought some paperwork with him to read while he sipped on his coffee. A whole batch of papers had just slipped from his grasp though, and were now drifting about in the breeze as he tried to catch them without spilling his drink - if only he'd thought to put it down.

Icene was basking in a secluded corner that had sunshine, not working on her tan as much as trying not to burn, but then, she had plenty of sun cream, at least on the bits she could reach. An ice cold, and staying that way, bottle of white wine sat next to her, along with the one glass she'd poured and was currently sipping. She had a veritable picnic in the bag by her feet, but, so far, no-one to share it with.

Jane was not too far from her apartment windows, in a more shaded spot, wearing a large floppy brimmed hat, and a long-sleeved but very cool loose cotton kaftan type thing. She'd bought it on a whim because the pale blue fabric was covered in little white daisies with yellow centres, but she really wasn't sure even now that it was a good choice. Bare feet peeked out from under it as she struggled to keep her attention on the book she was trying to read. Any distraction from a childcare textbook would probably be more than welcome!

Gregori was just outside the Mocha doors, on the phone to his builder, and slugging down a bottle of water fresh from the Mocha's fridge. He was not in the best of moods, but the sunshine was helping, along with abject apologies and promises of cost reductions... after a few more exchanges he hung up and sighed, then rolled his head on his shoulders before leaning back against the sun warmed wall and almost, but not quite, wishing he smoked or something.

Cleo was in the tenant gardens, admiring the plants, and occasionally pulling a random weed out of a plot here or there... and if she pocketed a few leaves of bay, or a sprig of rosemary, well, nobody would notice right? She did draw the line at pinching strawberries though, leaving those well alone in the plots where they were, just, oooh, garlic chives! Those would be good. She wondered how difficult it would be to get a plot, then she could maybe grow her own herbs outside, they usually tasted better than indoor grown...

"You work when the work is available, I know how that goes. What is wrong with that habit anyway? It's a good strong work ethic that means you get and keep customers." Jane shook her head, "If I was doing anything else, well, I might be working different hours, or more or less days. I had considered nursing, which would have meant night shifts."

She chuckled, "Me, who gets queasy when I cut myself chopping vegetables as a nurse? That would have been something huh? But, still, I know you know how to use the microwave, and plates in the oven stay warm quite well as you've discovered by now I'm sure."

Either that or some of the meals she'd left him in the past would have been disposed of as charcoal some days later....

He couldn't fault her thinking on that level. His work was what kept him here and he was grateful for that.

"If you worked different hours, less days, or a different job we'd figure out a way to spend time together. Even if you were a nurse I could bring you lunch or something." He suggested, not shooting down the idea of her trying her hand at something new. "You've taught me a good deal about the kitchen."

But Jane was still thinking about his kitchen, there was something about it, "I think your sink is in the wrong place."

It might have been a completely odd remark, but she went with it anyway, "If we moved it over a bit, we should be able to improve the flow of the room and I think it needs to be lightened up a little? Maybe a lick of paint, I think, for you guys, maybe a washable green and grey scheme? With light wood or white units?"

She'd thought about it a lot, and given the whole idea of interior design a lot of thought... "Would you be awfully upset if I went back to college? I er, got an offer of a place at Rutherford to study interior design. Jazz encouraged me to apply last year, and I did, but I never expected to get in."

His brow arched as he contemplated what Jane had just said. His sink was in the wrong place? Memphis knew nothing about kitchen design. She was talking like a designer though, so he wasn't about to question her.

"I would be upset if you didn't take advantage of that opportunity, Jane." Going to school was one thing he felt strongly about and if she wanted to be an interior designer she'd need schooling. "You might even get a class or two with Travis."

Jane looked shocked for a second, "Oh my god he'll hate that." Then she chuckled, "I kind of hope it doesn't happen, for both our sakes, but, can you imagine the look on his face if it did?"

"Well, I'm gonna go then, and maybe I can get a more, sensible, career idea going than just housewife and mother? Since that's not exactly likely to happen any time soon. I'll still be working at the crèche, mostly I'm doing evening classes, apart from one day."

Memphis laughed. "I'm sure he wouldn't pay much attention." General education classes lumped everybody together anyway. "Classes are meant for teaching, learning. Not to be concerned about who is in there with you."

Smiling at her decision to go he nodded. "Sounds sensible. Plus night classes will guarantee Travis isn't in any of them." The boy liked to have his nights to himself, Memphis had learned. "Plus you can use my place to experiment on if you want."

"Really? I've already been doing mine to death, but there's only so much you can do with a subdivided square. Working on a really proper sized apartment would be so good." Impulsively she leaned over and pressed a small kiss to his cheek, "Thank you, you are so good to me you know that?"

"Sure you can." He said with a nod. "It could use a bit of sprucing." Memphis admitted. The place hadn't really been touched since he moved in, and even then he'd just painted in a few rooms.

He grinned when she kissed his cheek. "You're welcome."

Jane wasn't going to rush off and start now, but she was very pleased, in a quiet almost reserved way, "I know it needs to be a reflection of you and Travis, but I hope you guys won't mind if I put a few homely touches in of my own, I mean, sometimes I wonder if you guys do more than eat and sleep there, but, I know you do, after all that TV Gaming? You need comfort and practicality most, right?"

She grinned, "I'll do a good job, honest, because I, I care about both of you."

"Well you spend a lot of time at our place. Putting some of you into it would be nice." He told her softly. She was there for a good part of their evenings, after all. "I trust you to do a good job."

"Thank you, and I like your place, it has room for you both to be spread out and it's just, very you, I don't want to change that, just, smooth out the rough edges maybe?" Jane smiled, "I should talk to Travis and see if he has any input he'd like to make as well, I mean, he does live there too?"

She could already begin to see things in her mind, warm colours, neutrals with warmer brown and gold accents, chunky furniture that was slouchy and comfy at the same time as being sturdy. Better gaming chairs for the boys of course, and the kitchen, well, completely ripped out and refitted of course!

"Are you sure though, I mean, I can just design and not do any of it, and I wouldn't dare to do it all at once for a start but, maybe just the kitchen? I can make it so you'll love to cook in it, you and Travis both?"

Memphis shook his head. "He won't mind. When I was his age I was stuck in a dorm without decoration. He could go if he wanted to - but if you want I'll mention it to him." He said smirking.

It would be interesting to see what she had in her mind. He was sure maintenance could help her out with moving the sink if she really wanted to.

"Of course I'm sure. You've made me want to spend more time in the kitchen than anybody else I've met." Which was the absolute truth and given what he knew how to make when he first met her to now, she would probably figure that out on her own.

"Well, in that case, I will enjoy making sure your apartment suits you both perfectly, that the kitchen is a joy to cook in, and to keep clean, and that, well, it's not too out there." She grinned, "I promise. Nothing too outrageous, just, something that fits ok?"

It was going to be fun, for her at least, to start the planning, even if that did mean measuring and plotting and learning how to draw things to scale and everything. Hard work, yes, but worth it, well, she hoped so, for her future and, quite possibly, theirs.

"Now, about enjoying this sunshine, wouldn't it be better with some ice tea? Let me get some, it's right inside the window."
