Multiple Pups, all in the Gardens, late afternoon, All OTA/MW
Emma had put the phone down after a long chat with Ang, and yes, Alec too, even Gavin had gurgled at her, and finished her cup of tea, then fetched up both dogs, and headed for the gardens. They needed a longer walk tomorrow and she was thinking of taking them out for a long hike, but for now the gardens and a dozen or so laps, along with assorted fetch and tug of war games would have to do. So for a while she was settled on the lawns, throwing tennis balls in various directions and laughing as Faith and Lily raced each other to bring them back.

Spencer was hiding out in the Gazebo, he was fairly sure his mother was likely to call, so had left his cell upstairs, and instead bought some paperwork with him to read while he sipped on his coffee. A whole batch of papers had just slipped from his grasp though, and were now drifting about in the breeze as he tried to catch them without spilling his drink - if only he'd thought to put it down.

Icene was basking in a secluded corner that had sunshine, not working on her tan as much as trying not to burn, but then, she had plenty of sun cream, at least on the bits she could reach. An ice cold, and staying that way, bottle of white wine sat next to her, along with the one glass she'd poured and was currently sipping. She had a veritable picnic in the bag by her feet, but, so far, no-one to share it with.

Jane was not too far from her apartment windows, in a more shaded spot, wearing a large floppy brimmed hat, and a long-sleeved but very cool loose cotton kaftan type thing. She'd bought it on a whim because the pale blue fabric was covered in little white daisies with yellow centres, but she really wasn't sure even now that it was a good choice. Bare feet peeked out from under it as she struggled to keep her attention on the book she was trying to read. Any distraction from a childcare textbook would probably be more than welcome!

Gregori was just outside the Mocha doors, on the phone to his builder, and slugging down a bottle of water fresh from the Mocha's fridge. He was not in the best of moods, but the sunshine was helping, along with abject apologies and promises of cost reductions... after a few more exchanges he hung up and sighed, then rolled his head on his shoulders before leaning back against the sun warmed wall and almost, but not quite, wishing he smoked or something.

Cleo was in the tenant gardens, admiring the plants, and occasionally pulling a random weed out of a plot here or there... and if she pocketed a few leaves of bay, or a sprig of rosemary, well, nobody would notice right? She did draw the line at pinching strawberries though, leaving those well alone in the plots where they were, just, oooh, garlic chives! Those would be good. She wondered how difficult it would be to get a plot, then she could maybe grow her own herbs outside, they usually tasted better than indoor grown...

"Emma! How nice to see you!"

There were two translucent but beaming faces in a nearby shrubbery.

Emma turned slightly, "Hmmm, are you two fading or is that the sunshine?" She grinned, "It's good to see you guys, I was beginning to think you'd moved on or something. How's tricks?"

Lily deposited a soggy ball in her lap and she threw it without thinking, back away across the lawns, bouncing haphazardly as the dogs chased it.

"We don't do much any more," Marek admitted. ""But we noticed you, and came out!" Manny added.

"Well that's kind of, boring isn't it? I missed you guys, and with Ang and Alec away I've been feeling more or less on my own for a bit." She shook her head, "I did consider knocking on the mirror, but, every time I go anywhere near it someone else is around and I wonder if they'll think I'm nuts for knocking on it and yelling at you to come on out and talk to me!"

She turned, and scooted a little closer to the shrubbery, "Does this mean you don't have gossip? Or that you'd like some news? Or is there anything else I should know?"

"Do you have any news?" Marek said, with a grin, coming closer and sitting down beside her.

Manny joined them. "Have you finally got a proper boyfriend?"

"I have news, loads of the stuff! And sort of, yes, but proper might be a matter of debate." Emma grinned, and proceeded to fill the two ghosts in on everything happening with Ang and Alec being in the UK, and work and college (more A grades!), and then of course the Gallery classes and happenings around the Manor, "and then I met this guy called Jude, he seems nice, rebuilding the old amusement park as a Brecker Park of all things, that should be fun, and Lucas? Well, he's English, inked up, bit of a rebel, but, I like him."

She grinned, "He gets alcohol and sneaks it into the Manor, smokes all sorts of stuff, and well, he makes me laugh, and would you believe, he appreciates my cooking!"

"I think you'd like him, not sure if he can see ghosts, but hey, it's worth a go, he's the nephew of that whiny wine expert up on twelve, but he, the whiny wine guy, is dating Jazz, who's the older sister of my friend Cleo who's on second. It's going to get complicated sooner or later, but then, this is the Manor, what else would you expect?" Emma laughed, "I really have missed you two, it's been awfully boring just lately. Well, apart from the pool roof crashing in, that was so not nice, oh, you haven't seen Schnozzle on your side have you? He um, well, died in the pool house crash."

"Ooh, are you not tempted then? To just, go? Not that I want you to, but, I'm kind of curious in a fashion to find out what happens after all this." She waved an arm, and almost flailed as a soggy ball was again dropped in her lap. "Then again, I'm kind of happy being here right now, what with everything else."

She threw the ball again, harder this time, and both dogs hared off again, barking and running shoulder to shoulder as they chased it down and then bickered over who got to bring it back. "There are still down days though, I know we had another one of those weird weeks again as well, I couldn't stop drawing my parents for days afterwards, in case I forgot again?"

"Oh yes, we did," Manny said. "This time, it was other people's turn. We had this do-gooder peacenik hanging around I'd never seen before. I wonder where he belongs in the normal world."

"Either mouldering dead in a ditch in a dry faraway country, or one of those crazies like the colonel in 'Apocalypse Now', I guess. And there was that hysterical cocaine-guzzling model who's really sensible in the real world and works at the museum."

"Now there's a contrast!" Emma chuckled, "Could have been worse though, there's this madman chopped up a woman here and dumped her all over the city in small pieces." She poured water into a bowl as the dogs came running back, tongues lolling and dropping the ball in her lap again. "Then there's this mad heatwave, which is nice, but I could do with a holiday to somewhere cooler for a few days!"

And a distraction Jane was about to get as Demon spotted her. He'd been jaunting off to fetch the rope tug Memphis had thrown. Distracted and wanting her attention as well, he sauntered over and laid the slobber sogged rope beside her bare feet.

Of course, she noticed, how could she not when he managed to slobber all over her feet as well, "Eeeew, Demon! Where did you come from and urgh, is that thing yours?" She did smile though, "Do you want me to throw it? I bet you do, oh god that is gross," she gingerly picked the wet rope 'thing' and lobbed it out into the gardens, "go get it then."

Demon hunched down as she picked it up then trotted back off after it. She hadn't thrown it far, so it wasn't a big task requiring him to run.

On the other side of the garden, Memphis saw his dog get distracted in the shade. So he whistled sharply, but Demon didn't come. Sighing he walked over, preparing himself to find a dead squirrel or something. Not Jane. "Oh hey there, hotstuff." He said as he approached. "No wonder he wouldn't come back for me."

"Hello yourself, and yes, too hot, by far!" Jane smiled, "Which would be why I'm out here trying to stay in the shade but where there is a whiff of a breeze, although, I wasn't expecting to get my feet slobbered on," she grimaced a little, "still, wet wipes took care of that."

She'd dug one out of the packet she invariably now kept in a pocket or nearby bag, and her feet had felt remarkably nice and cool, as well as clean, afterwards.

Memphis chuckled. "A little sun does the body good." But he plopped down on the grass beside her feet then took the tug rope Demon brought back and threw it further. "Maybe he wanted to keep them cool by getting them wet?"

"Mmm, still not my idea of a good thing, the slobbered on feet that is, the sun is ok, in small doses for me." She smiled a little, tilting the hat's brim so she could see him better, "You probably tan ok, but I just lobster and peel."

She shook her head a little, "I'm not into the whole baking part either, and basting myself in oil? Nuh uh."

Memphis didn't try to get out in the sun a whole lot. It caused his ink to fade every time he got burned. But he did get out more often than Jane was expressing she did.

"Baking and basting are for dinner. Not sitting outside."

Jane leaned back a little, setting the book down on her lap, "I think, that looking at qualifying in childcare is not something I want to work towards. I mean, sure the little darlings are great, but some of them are complete monsters on occasions." She smiled, "Not sure I can deal with that for the next forty odd years. How did you wind up doing cars again?"

The kind that were absolute monsters most of the time he could relate to. It was how he imagined his kids would be, one of these days. "I was one of those kids, and so was Travis. For the most part, we evened out pretty good."

As often as they'd had dinner together, he couldn't believe they hadn't discussed his history with cars. "My dad used to have a garage. I was his go-fer and just fell in to tinkering along with him."

"Oh, that's a very scary thought Memphis," Jane was a little nonplussed by the vision of little Memphis' and Travis type people running around, it was really not something she'd thought about, but it wasn't entirely unappealing, "more than one of you or Travis? I mean, I know he's a twin, that doesn't run in your family does it?"

She grinned though at the car thing, "I wish my parents had been inclined to do things like that, just, to have us close, I kind of miss my brother, but, I also kind of understand how he got torn in two when I left San Diego." She shivered a little, not good to think back there, "But then again, my mother did fit me out for the career they thought I had ahead of me, that of housewife and mother. Shame it isn't likely to happen, and perhaps a blessing she isn't around to see how it failed."

As he shook his head he grinned. "No, twins don't run in the family. The boys were just some weird phenomenon or something."

He listened attentively when she talked about her past. She hardly ever did and he could understand that some things didn't belong outside of the past. But it was still nice to be let in from time to time. "You could still have that career, if you wanted it. You're a great housekeeper, a phenomenal cook and I haven't heard a single thing not good about you from the daycare here. You're not a failure."

"Well, there is that, but, I think my mother had in mind for me to be a married housewife, and really, I don't think I'm ready to even think about going there again," she smiled a little sadly, "it's just not that easy to put so much trust in someone to not hurt you, and to be so vulnerable to that, well, I just don't think I want to even consider it, for a long time."

Still, she had considered it, watching the married parents coming and going with their children, it had reminded her of things she was missing, and while the crèche was full of children, they all went home with other people at the end of the day.
