Slaughtered Lamb, evening, anyone? OTA/MW
The Lamb was never exactly quiet but Wednesday was one of its slightly less busy nights and there were a few free tables and the dartboard was free.

Charlie came in and looked around, waved to Molly and headed for the bar. "Hello sweetheart," he said. "Happy thhhhhhinko da mayo. Guiness please. Ah - and one for my friend here. What're you having?"

"No idea," Urquhart said. "I just came for a drink and throwing some darts. Nothing's quite as relaxing."

There was a Scottish accent to his voice, faded by upper crust British and amorphous international influences.

To Allan it was just a generic Brit accent that wasn't quite English enough to make him wary. There was something else though - some tension in the man's neck, maybe, a shade in his eyes - whatever it was Allan wouldn't be getting drunk with this chance met stranger.

"Darts are a fine thing," he said. "invented by the Irish, of course."

"I always thought it was bored English soldiers throwing short arrows at the bottom of an empty barrel," Urquhart said. "As if that would make it less empty."

"Didja?" Allan chuckled. "Well th'English would say that, now, would'n they?"

"Well, it wouldn't have been Scotsmen impatient for the whiskey to mature," Urquhart pointed out.

"'Less they drank what was in the barrel," Allan pointed out.

"That would've been awfully impatient," Urquhart grinned.

"They're filled with celtic passion," Allan said. "Unlike the English who are cold hearted bastards - unless we like them," he glanced across the bar to were Charlie was inching along with a tray of full pint glasses, "in which case they can be forgiven."

But Charlie was from the Welsh border, so at least a little bit Celtic by association?

But Urquhart wasn't supposed to know that much about the Manor people.

"We can wait," Urquhart said instead. "Whiskey gets better with time, after all."

"Quality," Allan agreed. "Though sometimes fast and raw can be just what's needed."

"Well, for the fast and raw, there's vodka or tequila," Urquhart points out.

"Or some well brewed poteen, with good company and music," Allan suggested.

"That sounds like a lot of fun," Urquhart said, smiling to himself.

He remembers get-together with Irish clients that ended just like that.
