Pandapartment; Late New Year's Eve/Early New Year's Day; Bridget and Phin
Bridget had never been more upset with Phin in her life. She wasn't sure exactly why, but she knew the anger was justified, so the whys didn't matter. All that mattered was payback. Phin needed proper punishment, not the namby-pamby time out she'd given him, kicking him out of the apartment like she had. No, she needed to hurt him as much as he hurt her. Maybe even more. Of course even more. He deserved it.
Bridget's dreams on New Year's Eve had started off pretty innocuous. First she was taking stroll down the Riverwalk in the middle of a rainstorm that didn't seem to get her wet. She'd thought about the night Phin proposed to her, and then it devolved into this. Waiting at home, furious. Tiger Woods' wife went after him with a golf club, the tool of her husband's trade. Bridget decided to do the same, with a hammer from Phin's own toolbox.
She waited, seething, until he came home from work, and then she just went after him. She caught him off guard, managed to knock him down, and proceeded to beat him into a bloody pulp with the hammer. And it felt pretty good (no, more than) up until he stopped moving and she finally took a moment to stop and look at what was left of him.
It was that image that remained when she woke up with a quiet gasp. It was below freezing outside, but there in the bedroom she was pretty sweaty and felt sick to her stomach. That feeling got worse when she turned over to find Phin gone from his side of the bed. For an actual second she thought he was dead, but then she heard the sound of the toilet flushing and saw the light under the door to the bathroom.
Right. He was fine, and she'd been dreaming. She sighed and flopped back on the bed, feeling a mixture of idiocy and remaining queasiness.
