Late Night Mocha Multipup; OTA
Kara hated dressing up. She wasn't a girly girl - she was far more comfortable in jeans and tshirts or flannels than in dresses. But sometimes you just had to. Like tonight when your bar was being given an award for one of the best bars in the City. She'd found out last minute and though she technically wasn't the owner - Connor still was - he couldn't go so Kara was filling in.

Hence the dress she was wearing now. But she had a bit until her cab arrived and so she had gone into the Mocha for a coffee, ignoring the looks she was getting.

****

Loki was sprawled over the couch closest to the fireplace, soaking up the warmth as he flipped through his old and battered copy of Poe.

****

Hugh was in the Mocha as well, reading glasses in place, hair sticking up wildly. He'd just had the oddest dream. Well he assumed it was a dream at least - and he must have been sleep walking. Because he didn't remember coming to the Mocha. But at least he had his notebook with him and now he was hastily jotting down the bits he did remember.

"Poor thing. Come sit down."

He scooted over to make room - between himself and the fire. It was nice and warm in that little spot.

Loki sympathetic - what a turn up for the books.

Fin eyed him doubtfully, but he was very cold so he nodded and said, "Thanks," and took the offered seat.

"It's fun out there but so cold," he said. "Staying inside is probably a good move."

"Definitely," he said, shifting to lean his arm on the back of the couch and very very close to Fin. "So what were you doing out in the cold anyway?"

Fin ignored the arm. He knew it was there, but he ignored it.

"The traders in Vine Square have laid on a big party," he said. "Ice skating rink, petting zoo, carriage and pony rides, stalls, Santa and all his little helpers. I've been wandering around trying to get the feel of how the customers are reacting to it and to the general state of the economy. That kind of thing."

"Oh yes, Charlie was organizing a lot of it. I'm afraid the whole Jolly Old St. Nick grates on my nerves a bit."

Christians stealing the old holidays and trying to take them over. It was best Loki stayed away from the Square this weekend lest he see what chaos he could cause.

And speaking of chaos...

"Are you still cold?" he asked, voice all smooth and silky and laid a hand over Fin's.

Fin controlled his flinch. "Just around the edges," he said. "This fireplace is a good idea. Makes the room look very welcoming. Very atmospheric."

He looked at the fireplace and the rug in front of the fire and banished the image that had just popped into his head.

Loki grinned. "Yes very - welcoming."

It was purred. So much suggestion behind it.

Yes, well, by now Fin should have expected that and he grinned - as much at his own idiocy in rising to the bait as by the blatant innuendo in Loki's tone.

"So," he said after a moment. "How are you? I haven't seen you since that god awful exhibition in New York."

Not that they had spoken. But that colour hair had been unmistakable even at a distance.

"Oh fine, fine. Helping out at the gallery on occassion and otherwise causing trouble."

He grinned wickedly.

"Trouble? You?" Fin said with a lift of the eyebrows. Why do I find that so easy to believe?"

Loki winked.

"Well someone has to keep you all on your toes don't they?" he replied. "And I do it so well."

"You do," fin agreed. "On our toes and on edge. I, for instance, am never sure whether to look forward to the mental stimulation or dread the physical ditto. You're a very strange young man."

Loki chuckled.

"Dread? Oh now you've hurt my feelings," he said with a pretty pout.

Fin raised his eyebrows again but did the polite thing. "I'm really sorry about that," he said. "You'll just have to put it down to my lack of aptitude at flirting."

Loki really did enjoy seeing if - and how much - he could fluster Fin. So he removed his hand from the other man's and instead laid it on his thigh.

"You just need practice," he purred.

"Not much point in practicing a skill you don't intend to use," Fin said. "Now you - well I should imagine that flirting is a major talent, as well as a skill, and it would be a god awful waste not to use it."

"This is true," Loki agreed with a nod. "I have made it into an art form." He leaned in a little closer. "Why don't I show you what else I know how to do."

Fin's thigh may have twitched under his hand but his expression of politely amused interest didn't waver. "And what would that be? Origami? You can 'walk the dog' with a yoyo? Bake a better souffle?"

Loki grinned and leaned in to whisper a rather suggestive suggestion in Fin's ear.

Perhaps it was a blush, perhaps it was the heat from the fire. Either way, colour mounted in Fin's face.

"You couldn't," he said. "At least you couldn't with me. I don't think it bends that way."

Fin tried not to flinch again. "I'd be utterly astounded," Fin promised. "Mainly because I don't think that's physically possible without being double jointed, but also because I just don't. Thanks for the offer though."

"Mmmm. Pity."

He looked Fin over slowly and licked his lips, squeezed his thigh, and then sat back.

Fin began to relax as well. Sex was something he had decided was unnecessary to his well being a long time ago. The intimacy of it - combined with his distaste for casual fucking - meant he often had too clear an idea of what his partners actually thought of him and it was very difficult to stay cheerful with shattered illusions.

Also, where Loki was concerned he was sure it wouldn't just be illusions that got shattered. He wasn't prepared to take any risks.

So he relaxed and said, "Are you staying here for Christmas?"

A little sneer passed over Loki's face.

"Christmas," he said. "One religion blatantly stealing from another to try and wipe the lesser out. Did you know that Santa Claus and his giving of gifts just mimics Wotan - or Odin as you'd know him? Complete rip off. And Jesus wasn't even born in December. It was more like March."
