Afternoon; The Mocha & Jack's place; Johanna & Jack - Nap time!
Johanna's apartment was haunted. In the beginning, the presence seemed restricted to the bedroom, and acted only at night. It started with light, slow-moving footsteps, that would travel from the doorway to the end of Jo's bed. Before long, the distant sound of a woman humming joined them. Each night it grew progressively worse, the humming growing louder and louder, until eventually it evolved into coherent singing. Then when the footsteps finished following their set path, the mattress would sink at the end of Jo's bed as if someone sat down to join her. At this point, the new occupant of 465 surrendered her room to the old occupant of 465, and began to sleep on the couch. For a couple weeks, she successfully evaded the ghost, but then the melody began to drift through the apartment, until it again found her. The song itself had become frantic, the volume of the woman's voice fluctuated erratically, and the words were now garbled.
On top of everything else, this was preventing Johanna from sleeping. She'd only managed to get two hours of sleep the night before, even with a Tylenol PM, and although she managed to make it through a work day, she was now completely depleted of energy. She looked frazzled. Her head was a frizzy mass of curls, looking almost cartoon-ish, and giving one the impression that she'd stuck her finger into an electrical socket. Dark circles shaded her eyes, which themselves lacked their usual vibrancy. She was far from her usual perky self.
More than anything, she wanted to crawl into bed, pull the blankets of her head, and take a long nap, but understandably she was reluctant to go back to her apartment. So bleary-eyed and dragging her feet, she found an empty chair in the back of the Mocha, laid her head down on the table and in a matter of minutes drifted off into sleep.
