Pool house, all day, Talk Like A Pirate Day! Everyone welcome
Technically they shouldn't have put it in the pool, but the Manor could afford to replace it if necessary and it had to be admitted that a genuine floating pirate ship was a lot more fun than one on the grass.

Nick tied it off securely at one side of the pool so the prow was in the shallow end and the stern over deep water for jumping in, and wondered who would be the first to find it. There were plenty of posters up, that was for sure.

{Standard party post - get your pups' scantiest swimmers on and come and say 'Aaaaar'}

"I could see that," Del said with a grin. "I think it makes a lot of difference to how you approach customers if you are passionate about what you do."

She laughed lightly and shrugged. "What can I say? I appreciate the shinier things in life."

"Ah, most of them are just rocks," Del said, "but some have more personality. Have you heard about the exhibition at the Ashford? They are doing this "Rocks and Rocks" exhibition - mainly geology and fossils but the big draw is that they are borrowing a load of stuff from the Smithsonian." He grinned. "If you like shiney, the Golconda Diamond fits the bill. This big," he held his fingers a quite startling distance apart, "and bright blue!"

There was a quick, electric snap in her brain and she had a flash of memory - pictures she'd seen of a blue-tinted fiery stone the size of a tangerine.

"A blood diamond if there ever was one," she murmured. Then she looked at Del and smiled, "Sorry. I mean, that is the stone, isn't it? The one from way back when, that some Indian prince gave some invading conqueror as part of a payment in exchange for keeping his people safe?"

"Hey, you know your history as well as your rocks," Del said. "Yeah, he made the payment and they still got massacred, poor souls. Blood diamond is a very apt description. The Ashford has had to take out huge insurances and," he grinned, "have taken on temporary staff. I'll have to break out my tweeds again."

She smirked, "Not just a pretty face."

Then she tipped her head and looked him over with a grin. "I'm sure if anyone can pull off tweed, it's you," she teased. "Would almost make a trip to the Ashford worthwhile even without the giant diamond."

"If you were to do me the honour of coming," Del smiled, "I would be sure to give you a guided tour. All the bells and whistles. I can't promise that you could hold it but I could get you pretty damn close!"

She beamed, a familiar shimmer of excitement tingling through her.

Once upon a time she'd have done anything to get close to that gem and now she could do it legitimately.

"An offer like that? I'll be sure to keep a day open on my calendar," she promised.

"And I'll be sure to let you know once the exhibition is ready to be viewed," Del said. "I know the history of the pieces on display, but it would be interested to hear the verdict of an expert about their quality. Just because something was worn by the Duchess of Windsor it doesn't mean it's actually that good."

"So long as it stays behind closed doors?" she grinned. "I'd hate to piss off some foreign dignitary by bad-mouthing their cultural treasure."

"We could do that," Del assured her. "I got your number - it's the the book isn't it? I'll leave you a message about when I'm working and arrange a 'private viewing', maybe o one of the night where we do a late opening. You could stay and 'help me lock up'." He lifted his eyebrows and gave her a leer.

She laughed a little and smiled. That bright 'I appreciate that, but I'm not really interested' smile.

"I'll keep an ear out," she said.

Oh - no sense of humour, what a pity. Del sighed and nodded. "And I'll be sure to ring you," he said in English. "See you around."
