Michaels Bros Dept Store, Jane and Jazz. (closed)
Jane had asked, and Jazz had agreed, so now here Jane was, hanging around the store wanting some help with buying clothes. Following her discussion with Shila the night before, this seemed like an even more urgent need than it had before. She waited until Jazz was free of customers, then headed over.

"Excuse me? I need some help with my shopping? I wonder if you wouldn't mind..." Her voice trailed off, Jazz looked completely exhausted and Jane frowned, "Did you get any sleep last night?" She had to whisper the words so the other staff wouldn't hear her.

	Jane smiled, "I think they should be good, now, which ones?" She looked round, there were so many pretty colours. She picked up a longer length skirt in a soft dusty blue. It fell to mid-calf when she held it up against herself. "How about this one?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"I could? But would I want to? And, um, how much shorter without appearing, um, tacky?" It was the best word she could think of, but, it did come to her that ankle length skirts were John's favourites for her, and she wasn't sure she wanted to keep anything he'd preferred. "Right, so, um, what should I try on first?" She was fingering a lightweight skirt in a muted shade of heather with one hand, and sort of duck egg blue jacket with the other, "There are so many colours, but, which ones go together? Which ones will look good on me and um, which clothes will fit best? I don't know, I haven't had to think about it in what, ten years?"

	Jane picked up a one of the skirts, in the heather colour, and one in sage. She'd no idea what sizes she'd picked up, they were the ones she'd normally bought before. Well, the one's John had pulled off the rail anyway. "Um, Jazz? What size am I? I know I took some clothes in, but, I have no idea what size they are now." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Really? But, that would mean I'm not, um," Jane blushed, putting the skirts back on the rails, and mumbled the word "fat."

She did find the same two skirts, in the size eight, and a pretty blouse in a creamy ivory shade in the same size. "What do you think of these? Would they work?"

She held the blouse up against her with the skirts below. "And would I need a jacket?"

	Jane was still stunned at the sizing thing, and just nodded, "I should try these on then." She headed for the changing rooms, glancing back to make sure Jazz was still there. The attendant counted the items in, and handed her a token with the number three on it, looking back again, Jane headed inside to try on the clothes. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Jane shut herself in a cubicle and took off the skirt and jumper she was wearing. Critically she looked in the mirror, only to see what she always saw, a short redhead with the same curves that John had called 'fat'. SHe shook her head and pulled on the ivory blouse, it fitted, if a little tightly across the bust, and then the heather coloured skirt. That fitted like a glove, and it was a disbelievingly stunned Jane who headed out to get Jazz's reaction.

"Sneakers are good for running in, and standing up all day in, I don't think the black pair I wore to the New Years Eve do will work with these though, will they?" Jane didn't know, wasn't sure, and these lighter, brighter colours, well, black seemed suddenly rather too dark.

"But, I don't know what would work with these colours?" The other skirt was held up, and between the muted heather and the soft blue Jane was really beginning to think that she'd have to spend more on shoes than on anything else. "And, um, would I need a second shirt? Or, um, a jacket?"

This could very well get expensive, but Jane knew that she needed the clothes. Even if it was just the basics. "So, um, shoes, and a jacket? Perhaps some new underwear?"

Oh yes, that was all the wrong size too no doubt. Jane smiled and headed back into the changing room to put her other clothes back on, at least now she knew what sizes to get, so she could, once she had the colours and shapes down, shop for herself more.
