Laundry room, late afternoon, Icene and Emma (Closed)
Icene was sitting in the laundry room, watching the machines spinning her coloured wash round and round and round. She wasn't bored, because the colours were swirling in a very hypnotic fashion. She didn't realise anyone else was there until a hand waved in front of her face.
"Hello, you looked a little stuck there?" Emma grinned as soon as the blonde CSI looked up, "You alright?"
"Oh, yeah, just thinking and trying to fit the pieces together. You know, work stuff?" Icene smiled, "How are you doing now? Back at work and started college I hear?"
Emma set her basket down in front of an empty machine and started throwing sheets and towels in. They were all white, so that worked for her. "Yeah, it's going fine, college is great fun, and I'm doing an extra half day at the gallery as well. Almost back to normal in fact."
Icene smiled, "Normal is good, very good in fact." She shook her head, "Of course, normal for me can be crazy chaos for other people, but, it's always fun to have a little madness in your life right?"
Emma grinned, "Trust me, the kind of chaos you deal with I have had more than enough of. I'll settle for college and work schedule juggling and making sure the cat doesn't eat the dog food, or vice versa."
"How come you're juggling schedules, are they not all worked out yet?" Icene figured college classes were set in stone once you were on class lists, and surely work should be fitted round that...
"Oh the class stuff is, but I offered to do some more shifts at the Gallery and sometimes I get asked to swap those about a bit. Speaking of which," she looked at Icene, "that was why I was at the gallery that day. I'd swapped shifts with Sadie?"
"Oh, so it probably wasn't you the shooter was after for definite then." Icene smiled, "Isn't that a relief?"
"Well, kind of, but there was something else. See I talked to Sadie a little bit after the shooting at the gallery? And she said something about it being the second shooting she'd missed?"
Icene's head lifted suddenly, her attention now fully focussed on Emma, "She said what? That is interesting. Did she sound pleased about it?"
Emma finished loading her machine, and added detergent and softener, then shut the doors, added coins and switched it on. "No, and I think that's why I remember it, she sounded really miffed, as if it was something good she should have been involved in? Kind of worrying in a sick way, because Andy nearly died, and I'm really glad now I swapped shifts with her to work that day, because otherwise she might have done." Emma paused, "I don't think Sadie likes Andy all that much."
The machine churned into life behind her, and Emma leaned back against it, "Sounds wrong I know, to have been glad I was there and not her, but, I'd rather Andy was alive any day of the week."
Icene smiled, although she desperately wished she had a notebook and pen with her, "I know what you mean, if Sadie had been there and Andy had died, you'd have felt ten times worse, if not a hundred, so yeah, in that respect I think I agree with you. Oh, and you're not wierd at all having that perspective."
She looked round, "To tell you the truth, I think that could be a vital piece of information you just gave me as well, it needs investigation though, and I can't do that down here. I'll head up to the bookshop get a notebook and pen, and hey, do you want anything from the mocha? Ican bring you down something if you do? Then we can look at what you've said and try to figure out what it might mean?"
Emma grinned, "Sure, hot chocolate with everything and um, surprise me with some cookies? I like all the ones they have right now. I'll even keep an eye on your machine for you, although, not so close as you were I admit."
Icene smiled, "OK, I'll be right back, and then maybe we can talk some more." She headed out of the laundry room still smiling. This could be the piece in the jigsaw that made it all come together, she could almost feel pieces falling into place already.
