Deacon's [secret birthday] bash - OTA
Charlie dearly loved parties but todays seemed likely to be one of the most strenuous. The sun shone brightly, the lake water seemed fairly clear, reflecting the blue of the sky and the equipment was in good condition.

Kayaks were stacked to one side for the traditonalists, there were brightly coloured jetskis like little bugs. A deck had a couple of larger craft moored alongside for waterskiing and there were pedalos and rowing boats and - the thing he had been keeping an eye on since he had arrived - several enormous plasic 'hamster balls' floating on the surface of the water.

"I'm just got to have a go in one of those," he thought as he waited for the guests, and secret guest of honour, to arrive.

Nick was trundling the chair along beside her and smiled when he spotted a familiar tupperware box. He tucked it out of sight in one of the pockets and parked the chair close to the water.

"Wherever you're ready then," he said. "Grounds a bit rough but the gravel isn't too bad on bare feet.I can give you an arm if you like."

The dogs were already splashing happily again; Cindy threw off her dress, kicked off her shoes, put both onto her chair, and held out her arm to Nick.

Nick drew her arm through his and escorted her carefully down to the waters edge where the water rippled enticingly over a bed of sun-warmed sand that he was fairly certain had been trucked in from the coast.

After the initial shock as his suit began to fill with water it was pleasant and he smiled at Cindy, letting her set the pace.

Cindy waded into the water, and the deeper she got in, the easier movement became.

When Axminster bounded up to her, proudly brandishing the stick, she pounced him from above, grabbed the stick, and threw it out, for both the dogs.

Axminster briefly gave her a strange look, then paddled after it with great enthusiasm.

Scruffy had been watching the stick with utter concentration and bounded after it, splashing until he too was out of his depth and had to swim, head straining towards his goal.

Nick laughed and ducked down into the water, wetting his hair and shaking it back then kicked off, floating and looking up at the sky.

"Hmmm, lovely day," he murmured.

Cindy kicked off, and followed.

She couldn't have agreed more.-
