Garage; Afternoon; Chas, D and The Car
"I don't get it," Deacon said, sitting in the passenger seat of the Dodge, one foot out the open door, and staring at the glove box. "It's shut tight now and no matter how much I tug it ain't openin'. So how come it keeps smackin' you on the knees?"

Charlie frowned and leaned back in the seat, putting his hands on the wheel and just touching the accelerator lightly to make the engine roar.

All at once the steering wheel chilled under his hands and the seat seemed to be flowing around him, gripping his hips and shoulders, and a shrill note hummed in amongst the engine noise, ear-aching and putting his teeth on edge.

His eyes unfocussed and the interior of the car lit with a light as pale as that of rotting fish.

"D," he said. "D, I want to get out."

Deacon frowned in concern but moved and helped Charlie out, leaving the car running for the moment.

"What's wrong?"

"Possibly nothing," Charlie said, edging away. "How 'bout you get in now and do what I just did?"

"Oookay," Deacon said slowly and climbed in. He settled in the driver's seat and put his hands on the steering wheel - smiling to feel the vibration of the motor idling beneath him.

The nasty rotten light warmed, the chill eased and the shrilll whine deepened to a pleased moan. From the easy way Deacon relaxed in the seat it didn't appear to be trying to eat him alive.

"She likes you," Charlie said. "Oh yes. No problem. You'll be fine. As lng as she doesn't get away from you on a bend."

Deacon gave the wheel a stroke and the vibration of the engine deepend still. He reached and turned the car off and sat for a moment as the engine ticked and cooled.

"What'd you see, Mouse?" he asked after a moment.

Charlie bit his lips together and shook his head. "Nothing specific," he said. "Just a feeling. She likes you, doesn't want me near you, simple as that."

He smiled. "I can see her point."

Deacon snorted and climbed out of the Car, shutting the door gently and then stepping up to wrap his arms around Charlie's waist.

"Well she'll just have to get used to ya then won't she," he said. "Cuz I certainly don't plan on lettin' ya go."

Charlie gave a pleased little purr of appreciation and lifted himself on his toes to kiss Deacon.

He only flinched a little when the car alarm went off and removed one hand from Deacon's shoulder to flip Car the bird.

Deacon chuckled and released Charlie long enough to turn off the car alarm and get his keys.

"Now now, children, play nice," he teased then leaned in to Charlie and whispered, "at least until we get back to the apartment. Then I want ya to play naughty."

Charlie, who had linked his hands in the small of his back and had hung his head and was dragging a toe and mumbling an overdramatic apology, as if he was five instead of getting on for - OMG - thirty, glanced up at that and grinned.

"Fair's fair," he said to the Car. "you can take D for a nice drive another day."
