Where Does the Good Go
[Being away for an overnight trip with Arron was probably the best thing Aria had done for herself since all the arrow shenanigans went down. Not because of who she was with - no offense intended to Arron - but because for the day and a half they'd been in Denver and even in the car she'd gotten a chance to relax the act that she was putting up for all the watchful eyes around the campus.
Admittedly, she couldn't let her traveling companion see that she was still all shades of fucked up over everything that had gone down, but at least Arron wouldn't think anything too weird was going on with her if she drank a little too much and acted a fool. He'd seen her drunk dozens of times, and knew how to handle her when she got like that. She honestly thought she'd done a good job of keeping her wits about her; she hadn't once cried where he could see her, and while it was silly of her to try and play wingman despite still harboring feelings towards him she was smart enough to not let her lingering emotions overshadow the goal of getting him laid for his birthday - because everyone deserves a little birthday sex as far as she was concerned.
Now they were back at Montenegro, and she was surrounded by reminders that the only time Aidan had bothered to acknowledge her presence was at the RA meeting Bastien had called. Otherwise, regardless of her best efforts, he'd been doing a stand up job of ignoring her and it was driving her crazy. All Aria wanted was something as simple as an 'I need some time', but what she was getting from him was radio silence, and it was killing her. With everything they'd been through did he not understand that she was an emotionally driven creature and the longer he went without giving her some sign the more convinced she was becoming that he would never want anything to do with her ever again?
For all his faults, Arron had at least made it a point to say something to her after they'd realized what Ben had done, assure her that he wasn't mad and that they'd work through things together. Aidan, however, had retreated into his own little world, one that clearly didn't include her in it. She knew, logically, that she should give up the ghost and accept that this was probably Aidan's way of saying that whatever had happened between them shouldn't have, but she couldn't bring herself to let go.
So, she smiled in the hallways, and acted like everything was fine, all the while sobbing behind closed doors while sitting in the dark wishing she didn't have a heart that he could so easily stomp on. She was so tired of pretending, but what else could she do? Aria Harper Dixon was far too prideful to let anyone see her bawling like a baby, and so she'd keep faking the funk.]
